I was wondering if antone could out an approximate value on this Model 94. I researched the serial number and it was manufactured in 1929...it's obviously well worn but it still shoots and the bore is reasonable. Looks like it may not be the original front sight? I guess they came from the factory blued but this one doesn't seem to have a trace of bluing left.

Thx

The wood appears to be in really good shape for an older 94.The metal finish appears weather worn, may have gotten rusty in the past and cleaned rather vigorously, hard to tell on the front site but it appears to be a replacement. If the action is still smooth and lockup tight it could be worth $250 someone else might have different opinion though.

That rear sight alone, is worth big bucks on ebay. I've seen them go $175 US.
That said, DON'T YOU F'N DARE part out that gun.
As a shooter, the rifle is probably a 250 dollar gun. If the bore is half decent. They are good pics, but pics don't tell the whole story.
To the right buyer, you might get up to 3-400 for it. But you may have a considerable wait on your hands.
The front sight doesn't look like any original I've seen either, so, if a buyer wanted to restore it, he'd have to see if the old sight could be remounted.

I appreciate your input...what do you figure is missing on the rear sight? It looks complete to me?

Well I somewhat agree with John here.
The standard SRC elevator rear site might have been worth big money if it had any blueing left on it.
I believe it's what typically called an Eastern carbine (no saddle ring).
I'd value it at $250, I think it would take a long time to get much more than that in the condition it's in.
The front site looks very original to me? I only had time to wait for the first 2 pics but it looks like a typical SRC type post site with blade insert. The blade may be to high but I can't really say from what I can see in the pics!
It a well worn old gun unfortunately they are really only very valuable to the guy that wore it :)

Edit to add:

"I appreciate your input...what do you figure is missing on the rear sight? It looks complete to me?"

I believe John was refering to the front site! Which I can now see in the close-up & yes the blade is a goofy replacment! A simple fix, I've seen quite few with coins filed down for a blade, & don't believe the value of this gun will suffer much with & with-out the blade replaced.

Model 94

Thanks guys I appreciate all your comments and input, I don't know where the bluing disappered to. There isn't a trace of bluing any where making me wonder if they ever shipped a gun from the factory unblued? Even between the barrel and the magazine tube there isn't a residual trace.

If it wasn't shipped from the factory in a green state then someone has done a heck of a clean up job in the past.

Thx

Nickel Steel?

Did Winchester have nickel steel in 1929? The only thing that is blue on the rifle is the trap door or loading ramp....with the shells sliding past it I would have thought that it should have the least amount of bluing? As you can see from the photo even the rear sight lacks bluing.

Nickel steel was pretty much standard on 94 carbines after serial # 250,000, and I'm assuming yours is around the one million mark? The loading gate always seems to be the darkest part of the receiver; not sure if it's different steel/temper but it is inset so it never gets toughed by oily hands.

.......nice lookin' old gun!
