hey

i have just been offered a winchester model 94 to purchase. i am a firearms newbie and know abslutley nothing about these guns except that they are a nice light weight gun that are easy to carry and fantastic as a quick handling bush gun.

said gun is in pretty good shape, cycles nicely and every thing feels nice and solid. is there anything i should be looking out for? it does not have a safety which makes me beleive that it is an older model. is there a website that will let me reference the serial number in order to gain more information about this firearm.

thanks for you input

Any 30-30 Model 94 in good shape should be worth about $300.
If the serial number is under about 2,800,000, add another $100. If it is all there and completely original, should be worth a little more.
The point is, if you like it and the price is OK, I would recommend you buying it. It is one of the cheapest center fires to feed, is easy to shoot, especially important for a new shooter and should give you many years of enjoyment.

the serial number can give you an age for the gun. Pre 64 guns had a better manufacturing base as to the guns produced after 1964. these old girls go on forever and i regularly shoot my 100+ year old guns without hesitation. the lists available online can be as much as 4-6 years different than the actual date of manufacture. Send me a pm with the first 4-5 numbers of the serial, and I can tell you a circa date

Angle ejects that can take a scope over the action(in walnut ) can demand much higher prices and are very common at $600 if in very good condition.

Buy it. If you choose not to buy it, pm me with the guys name and number and i'll buy it. Every hunter should have one of them.
