Doe anyone have a pic and description of a Winchester Model 70 in 220 swift?(it's apparently a heavy barrel and has a white stock??). I have a lad call me from another community in my region who has one and wants to trade it ... so I'm looking to my fellow CGNer's for info on this rifle as i have no idea what it looks like, description, or what most use this calibre for? Thank you and cheers,

220 Swift is a fast 22 caliber varmint rifle, a little faster than the 22-250. 55 gr. @ 3800 fps

Winchester Model 70 is a good rifle.

It probably looks like a Mdl 70 wiht a HB

When was it made? Depending on when, it may be a Push Feed or a CRF.

Actulaly, unless it was made prior to 1964, chances are it's a PF. They were generally very accurate rifles.

So it's a small calibre but a fast accurate one?! I've never seen one, nor shot one so I'm lost! Thanks for the replies Tod and Gatehouse ... cheers my fellow CGNer's,

p.s. gonna check out some info on the web ... ;)

I had one for awhile, good shooter, finicky about bullets, but accurate with 55's. 4000 fps with lighter weights is possible. Oto, it's probably a heavy barrel varmint gun, although they did make some sporter weight versions. Check the bore very, very carefully, it's easy to burn out a barrel on these if you're not careful. As to the "white stock", I'm thinking paint or bleached wood. - dan

What Dan said, only mine was not finicky and shot everything very well. Awsome varmit round, turns varmits into purple haze and crows into crow dust. As with any .22 not seriously suitable for big game, at least to my way of thinking.

Im curious as to what you mean. I assume it means that if you shoot ALOT of rounds with little time between them, the barrel would get way too hot and perhaps some negative side effects would occur?

I had a pre 64 standard in 220 swift and now have a pre 64 220 swift varmint model(medium heavy barrel)
I have never seen a white stock, get the serial and find out the DOM.
The 220 swift is a varmint cal as stated about but will also drop a cow if wacked in the right place. I use remingtom 50 grain ballistic tip(green tip) ammo for coyotes. pencil sized hole going in and a umbrella stand on the way out.

I also have a pre64 Swift, it is the standard rifle with the factory 26"bbl in stainless steel. The rifle is not picky about what it is fed it's a good shooter. It has the factory walnut stock and is a great long range rig. I would check the barrel throat very carefully. You can get similar barrel life to the 22-250. Pre 64's are hard to come by. White stock, no idea!
