Got it from a guy at work, seems to be chambered in 38 55 and the serial number 874023. Unfortunately the hammer was damaged, thats why its not in the picture i have it removed to match it with one on Monday. The action and everything else on the gun seems to work flawlessly. The story goes that his father had the gun for hunting and on one winter day he came home complaining that the gun would only half ####. After that the gun was retired to a closet. So i got it for basically a song and it would still half #### till i removed the hammer. If anyone could offer me some info on what it is other than the obvious model 1894 it would be great.

Thanks for viewing

Well im from NFLD and this is the first 1984 i have acquired and most 1894s ive seen were in 30-30. Im just curious, i found the 38 55 an odd caliber where im come from, i also found the length of the mag to be kinda short.

short mag.

that is an old ,94 in the popular 38-55 caliber with a half magazine that holds 3 rounds. it was considered better balanced than a full length mag when fully loaded. 38-55 cartridge was designed for target shooting and was very accurate. it also was a popular hunting cartridge. the old timers in this part of the world considered it a big cartridge for moose.
Brownie

P.S. the short mag would be an option at extra cost when that rifle was new, around 1920.
