Winchester mosel 21 16 gauge info, rough value

One just sold on gunbroker for close to 8000$ USD.

Unbelievable, that's a lot of money for an old SxS.
I was at Gunco today, local gunsmith, and according to his book the "16g skeet" brings a premium, single trigger brings a premium and its in perfect working condition, ejectors work as they should in fired/unfired modes.
After he told me what it was worth I have to say I felt pretty strange packing it back into the $15 plano case.....

Unbelievable, that's a lot of money for an old SxS:

Old or new, SxS are the most expensive shotguns made. You want a new London best, you're looking at 100 to 200K depending on the gun and maker. You want the best America made 100 years ago it's 20 to 60K unless the gun has special provenance like Teddy Roosevelt's Fox (350K) or another Fox nicknamed Bo Whoop (don't ask) that went a couple years ago for around $750K. The Parker Invincibles, if they ever came up for sale would probably easily cross the million dollar level.

There are literally thousands of used SxS for sale rights now in the 8-15K range.

I would advise you to do your research before you let just any gunsmith work on the gun. Especially the single trigger. Be careful. single triggers on SxS guns are notoriously finicky and subject to being permanently buggered by smiths who haven't the experience. Ask for advice as to who should touch it. There are lots here who know but there are plenty here and elsewhere who haven't a clue but are happy to tell you anyway.

What did he think it was worth???

Yep and sad we would have to fight to get 1/2 of that in canada. That is why when the day comes to sell any of my winchesters they will go state side and let my brothers sell them. All three ( wish it was 30)which is all I have now that would have any collector value We did that years ago when my Dad passed especially with his prohibs.

Book value was a tad over 6k and he figured $3500-$4000 canada real world price...he also added "bring it back if you want to sell it"...

So not much has changed in canada unfortunately in the last 10 years. 4 grand was the best I was ever offered for mine in canada and I can probally get 6500 -7000 if I list it state side.
Same goes for my model 12 28ga almost 3 grand diffference in the US vs canada and that is not a wish that is real and a phone call it would be gone if I could find the number again.
He knows you have a nice gun there if he said to bring it back. Congrats and rare today to get it the way you did
Cheers

I know where there is another 21 16ga skeet here and the guy that has it must be all of 82 or 83 now. I tried many times to buy it but no go. Jokes and says he will will it to me since he says I am one of the only ones left he knows that still appreciates a good 16ga. I just laugh but the odd time I have had that happen. Time will tell.

There is no one gualified to work on a model 21 in Canada period !!!! If u let anyone do anything to that gun it will devalue the gun . As for what that gun is worth I will put my money were my mouth is $3.500.00 to start so u know it is worth at least that anymore and I would have to inspect the gun . It would fit nice between my 12&my 20 besides 16ga is my fave .

Alleycat, I wouldn't argue with struff. He's putting a finer edge on my earlier comments about who you might allow to work on the gun. These are not to be messed with. There are experts....don't use anyone else.

If there is s issue with the gun sell for less money and let the buyer deal with it that's if u are even going to sell it . To be properly repaired if needed it would have to go to the states shipping would be 4 -500 $ plus the cost of the work that will all come off the value of the gun

Gentlemen, I wasn't arguing and if I came across otherwise somewhere along this thread then I apologise. There is nothing wrong with my shotgun and nobody is/was working on it. I brought it to Jason Spencer "Gunco" for his opinion on value, condition etc that's all... He is a gunsmith and collector of SxS's and knows much more than I ever will.
Thank you all again for sharing your knowledge and helping a fellow out...:)

The more rare the gun the higher the value. 16ga. are cherished in the upland world especially pheasant hunting. I wouldn't part with tis gun for anything less then $6000.00

That's the thing about the Internet everyone can make cements I wouldn't part with it for less than 6000 or one just sold for $8000 the facts are its not yours to sell and u didn't buy or sell the one for $8000.00 it's all a form of entertainment and a pass time time for 80% of the users . I see know has bumped my $3500.00 bid yet . Just saying.

I wrote the Cody museum about my model 21 and got a letter back (for a fee) with inspection dates etc. Pretty cool,
Seems it was made in 1937, weighs 6lbs 6ozs, non automatic safety and a bunch of other info like stock measurements etc.
