Is anyone familiar with the shotgun mentioned in the title? Winchester Ranger 120 12ga. A friend from work has it, and has decided to part with it. Any known issues? Are parts still available for it?

I'm also wondering what a decent price would be. We haven't completed the sale yet.. haven't even decided on a price either. He's supposed to bring the specs in tomorrow and a price for it.

Depending on condition and barrel options likely in the 200$ range. Check the Shotgun EE - there's usually some for sale. They're basically a no-frills pump that most would place at the lower end when compared to Remington / Browning or Mossberg. I think the most unreliable part on them is a plastic piece that connects the magazine tube to the receiver but I've never seen one break.

That said, the case with all shotguns is whether it fits you or not.

I bought mine in 1985. Never had a problem with it and nothing has been broken on it. I changed the barrel to one that takes screw-in choke tubes to enable me to use it with steel shot.

IIRC the Ranger version came with the Win Choke option. Good solid well engineered guns. The noted concern over the plastic magazine parts applies more to the semi auto versions. (1400 etc.) The pumps don't seem to have any issues. Early models 1200 had some bolt issues with faulty machining that would cause a screw to shear and jam the gun. The Ranger series has the latest of bolt improvements and is free of this concern. I own 3 models 1200 and love them. They point, carry and are super reliable shotguns. Best of all they don't cost a lot. A very good condition Ranger 120 with vent rib and Win Chokes should be about 250.00 cash. Shops ask more but they have overhead to consider.
