Can somebody tell me anythink about the subsonic ranger ammo.

I know where to buy it.

I need more information.

thanks.

What would you like to know ?
The specs are on the Winchester site as far as what is subsonic or not.

Excellent quality ammo.

I went to www.winchester.com/lawenforcement

Yes the spec for the ranger ammo is there , but nothing about the subsonic.

My questions is , do you guys know when was the last time they produce this ammo, and why police use the subsonic ammo. Does performe better , because it is low velocity.

Thanks.

The original rationale for the subsonic 147 9mm was that the longer bearing surface of the bullet gave the load better accuracy in the MP5 SMG. The subsonic factor was simply a result of the allowable pressure versus the weight of the bullet. It was found that the 147 penetrated better than any other 9mm from handguns at the same time that the FBI was looking for a deeper penetrating 9mm after the "Miami Massacre". The round is produced by several makers, it is no more or less accurate than any other 9mm ammunition in pistols.

Hard to find...

I have 2 boxes of teh T-series...the newest of the black talon/SXT in 147g.

From internet research this seems to be one of the newest and most effective 9mm rounds out there.

Good luck with your search, and do let us know if you find any.

Three types of ranger ammo come to mind for the subsonic crowd, actually 4. I have shot all four. They would be:

147gr. 9mm SXT T-series @990fps
180gr. .40S&W SXT T-series @990 fps
230gr. .45GAP SXT T-series @830fps
230gr. .45ACP SXT T-series @ 830fps

Winchester marketed their first .40S&W 180gr. loads as Subsonic, these are the same rounds used by the CHP. I have a few old boxes of these in my ammo stores. All the newest stuff doesn't specifically state that it is subsonic, but WWB 180gr. is the exact same load, same specs, same velocity which would make it subsonic.

Subsonic was a marketing term in the early to mid-1990's for alot of JHP handgun ammo, started with the 147gr. 9mm stuff and proceeded to .40S&W when it first hit the market. Like another post stated, it was marketing as a result of infamous "Miami shootout" where a single 9mm 115gr. Silvertip was to blame by not reaching the heart, after going through an arm.
