Winchester rifles, give me a low-down...

Don't see many in my area and don't know anyone who owns a Winchester rifle other than a '94. Are the bolt actions accurate rifles? What are the barrels and triggers like from the factory?
I saw a varminter in .22-250 with a synthetic stock and heavy barrel the other day. Looked beautiful, but don't know about the ins and outs of Winchester quality and accuracy. Any opinions out there?

I own 6 M70's and they all shoot under MOA at 100yds, the triggers need to be adjusted to lighten the pull (easy to do) but are nice and crisp. Barrels clean up easy. I have yet to find a reason to buy any other brand of bolt action rifle.

My shooting partner has a first generation Winchester Stealth and it is undoubtedly the most accurate factory rifle I have ever seen. I have seen many of their varmint rifles and they are damn good too.

There are not a great deal of aftermarket accessories for the M-70, probably the biggest reason why the M-700 are far more common.

I own and hunt with two Winchester bolts. One is an old 670A in 3006, a push feed bolt, with a 22" barrel. If I do my part it will make ragged holes at 100 yards. The other is a customized 338ss classic. This one is more accurate than the old 670A.

The pre 08 triggers are some of the best around, easy to adjust and break cleanly. The classic CRF action is extremely smooth and dependable. My buddy just bought a used 7mm rem mag in a ss70classic, it also shoots ragged holes at 100 yards... Barrels seem fine to me.

Winnie bolts are slightly heavier than a remington - both good rifles, for me, I like the way Winnies handle and shoot better.

Maybe less aftermarket stuff for them because they need less...

I have a M70 Coyote. I actually prefer the action to the Remington even though a large amount of my rifles are now Remingtons. The three way wing safety is very nice. The trigger on mine already had a trigger job. It's nice and crisp. As for accuracy. It's the 243WSSM. The factory offerings shoot mediocre which has been my typical experience with any Winchester factory rounds. I hope to check out it's true accuracy this summer with good reloads. I have however had mine free floated and bedded as well.

The Kimber is basically a slightly upscale Winchester Model 70. I love my Winchester but would probably buy a Kimber these days instead. That being said I won't be selling my M70

I have a Stealth in 22-250.

I kick myself to this day for not buying one in 223 from the Buffalo Gun Center, last year.

22-250 is extremely consistant with factory ammo.

got a used Stealth-I in .308......shoots 0.5MOA with Federal Gold Match all day
will reload for this rifle for sure ))
