Hi guys, wondering if you can identify this rear sight on my SRC. It's pre-ww1 and I can't find any pictures of it on the net... not sure if it's original, a factory option, a replacement or what???

It has a three position rear sight - the notched block on the back has the first two lowest positions and the third flip up is the highest. It's a good setup, and I'm a bit surprised I can't find any info on it.

Called an 'express' sight. Quick way of adjusting elevation. Winchester installed 'em in the factory, but obviously not on all their rifles. Special order thing. Came in several variations of numbers of leaves. Saw a 7 leaf 1873, that came back from Africa, on one of the U.S. auction sites. $12,500US.
There's a picture of a .30 WCF Model 1894 with a sight that's very close to your's here. http://www.rarewinchesters.com/gunroom/1894/M94-0958476/M94-0958476.shtml

Marbles made a lot of the sights Winchester used till they started using the cheap sheet metal jobs. Have a look on their site in the vintage section. Gobs of interesting stuff there.

I think you're on to something there. Haven't seen an identical one yet, but there are quite a few of the really old ones that are very similar.

Thats an express sight variation I havent seen before. It looks a little more sturdy than the regular express, which like Mike says, usually lost its middle leaf from grabbing and wrastlin' around.

On the by and by, thats a Dominion of Canada marked 94!
