Winchester Super X Model 1

That’s your recoil buffer squished above the recoil spring tube. Needs replacing. Yes, should lift out with light prying but likely brittle and will crumble. That gun has seen some use but well looked after.

I wasn't going to say anything because he's been saying the gun was unused and I didn't want to rain on his parade but now that you let the cat out of the bag and pointed out the buffer is finished FROM USE I'll chime in too. That gun has seen plenty of use and is definitely due for a buffer. You want an SX1 that has never been used then you have to be prepared to wait a long while and find one NIB. They do pop up occasiinally but it has been a couple years since I saw one NIB posted.

Well.... I was trying to be gentle. Close look at the recoil spring tube shows it’s been getting beat up from lack of a bolt buffer which also stresses your bolt slide. That gun has seen a fair amount of shells through it.

Yup sure has and as you said it's being used without a new buffer and everything is taking a pounding because of it. The one inherent flaw in the SX1 was that buffer due to the material it was made from.

Is that a 2nd dimple forming on the return-spring-follower?
- Should look like this (when new)

Thanks guys for the feedback. A little disappointing. I paid a premium for an unused firearm on this forum. Sad I was mislead.

So I should order a new buffer for it. Anything else?

When I did my three SX1's after purchasing them I swapped everything in the stock except the one I bought that was NIB as I had no intention of shooting it. The rebound springs get weak just from age and being compressed for 45-50 years even when not used. If you've ever seen what happens when that spring is too weak you'll change it to prevent a problem.

There was a an original Super X1 Trap at the Lloydminster Gun Show today. It had a Monte Carlo stock with some nice figure in it. It also had seen alot of use and was wearing a BW Casey shell catcher with the wire missing. It had the matt finished receiver top and 30" full choke bbl. For the use and overall condition though it was quite overpriced imo at $1200.

Western Gun Parts has a bit of what I need for my fellow Canadians looking for parts. They have the buffers, and return spring followers. Just on the hunt for a tube now!

Also big thanks to sillymike- who has been a gentleman in PMs helping a new guy along without being rude at all! Great to see his kind on this forum!
