Winchester supergrade

How does a super grade differ from an XTR ?

Personally, I don't know the answer to that one but I'm sure a more knowledgeable CGN'er on the nuances of the venerable Model 70 will be along soon with the definitive answer. ;)

NAA.

Hi
From what I know
Supergrade has high grade walnut, highly polished bluing ,inletted swivels and is all steel no alloys therefore a bit on the heavy side

Yeah, but just like good quality scopes/binos/spotting scopes, that last bit of fitting and polishing, etc takes up time and time is expensive.

If you want that last bit of quality, you pay for it.

I sold off my high end Model 70s because I couldn't justify hunting with them or shooting them.

There's no guarantee they will shoot better than their cheaper counterparts and it doesn't take much to get a big dent or gouge in the stock, or wear the edges off the blue. Poof, $1K+ gone.

Which is the more expensive model, the XTR or Super grade or did the Super grade replace the XTR .?

Think of the XTR as a BDL Remington 700 and a Super Grade as a custom shop 700. The XTR are nice if you’re into high gloss/white line spacers. I’m not one of those admirers. Oil finish stocks done properly are what I admire about the model 70’s I own. Super Grade is definitely higher priced than XTR.

I hunt with my supergrade. A well earned hunting gouge is just a reminder of a good day hunting.

What gets me are the guys selling guns and describe any imperfections as "safe kisses" LOL
Must be really packed gun safe Iguess

Not any more, but at one time an entire 20x16 room was a gun safe, with little room to walk between the rows of racks which were two high, with six three rifles on each side of the row, on their own separate peg, so they didn't touch. All the really good, now very expensive stuff, is long gone to those willing to pay to appreciate and take care of them for future admirers to appreciate.
