Winchester SX4 waterfowl

That's great to know. The SX-4 also shares many parts with the Maxus Silver as my previous post indicated. But not the gas piston as you pointed out.

My understanding is the SX-3 is a superior design to the SX-4. What's your take on that?

The Maxus and Silver are two entirely different models the Silver uses the same internal components as the SX-3 and shares some internal parts with the SX-4, including the gas piston. The Maxus uses an entirely different set of internal components than the SX-3 or SX-4. The SX-4 and Maxus have very few if any parts in common.

Recommend silver

I have both a 3” Maxus & 3.5” Silver. Bought Silver last summer from Cabelas on sale for around $1000 & Browning rebated $100. Used Silver on geese all fall only shooting 3”. Worked flawlessly and actually prefer it to the Maxus which has a wood stock. I understand Silver has same working inners as SX3 and from my experience & others recommendations either would be very reliable. Suspect a new Silver maybe easier to find than SX3. Have had No problems with loose charging handles, but did replace with Briley handles on both guns. Handled the SX4 & it felt ok, but the Silver has a much more substantial feel and easily my preference for waterfowl hunting. The Maxus has operated perfectly for me and is a pleasure to shoot on sporting clays.

find yourself an SX3.

I own two of them - one is a dedicated deer gun, other is Turkey and fowl. The SX3 is the only shotgun I own that I have kept and continuously used for more than ten years. The dura touch has almost completely warn off the forend and the grip behind the trigger.

The remingtons, vinci's, A400s have all entered my safe and left in short order . . . nothing compares to the SX3 for me personally.

I like 3.5 for Turkey and Geese. Everything else i use 3”. Though ill also hunt geese and duck with 3” anyway, i find 3 1/2 gets me a few extra feet for geese.
