Winchester SX4

They just came on the market in the last few weeks, so doubt many have been purchased and used yet. It's an SX3 with a few small new design changes, so pretty much anything you read about the SX3 will apply to the 'new' 4. I had an SX3, excellent gun.

I covet the SX3, my friend has one and just can't believe the fit, finish and overall engineering excellence. Surprises me frankly that they sell for so cheap, an overall excellent shotgun that should satisfy every need. The only glaring fault that I can see is that the ejection port and direction of travel for the safety are literally on the opposite side of where they should be, otherwise I would have bought on in a heartbeat!

:)

More cosmetic differences than anything else between the SX3 and SX4. The SX3 is a great gun but there was a batch of them that had a faulty pin/rivet holding the two part breech/slide block assembly together. When it broke, the hardened cam block would move and bind the action up tight! It is my understanding that Winchester has fixed the issue and many guns (SX3) were pulled off the shelves and returned to the distributors. So if the SX4 breech bolt assembly was redesigned to eliminate the faulty rivet then it should be a reliable shotgun, and keep Winchester at the top of the pack in terms of bang for your buck! Personnally, I think the SX3 and the new SX4 shotguns are way too light but it's a trend all manufacturers have taken in the last 10 years. It would appear there are no men capable of handling a 7.5-8lb shotgun anywhere...so the market caters to the boys who can only muster the strength to carry 6.5-7lb shotguns! The old SX2 and its cousin, the Browning Gold, where the perfect weight for waterfowl hunting as well as clay shooting...but I may be biased due to my love affair with the original Super-X Model 1.

Well read the other post and thanks for posting but ZERO info on the sx4 in there. Still open to thoughts on the gun.

My mistake--I thought the below info from that other thread shows what might be the differences between the Sx3 and SX4.

Nope its the same sx3 with a few slight changes . bigger bolt handle .redesigned bolt release button and safety as well as the shape of the trigger guard . rebadged to sx4 for marketing hype .

There seems to be very little difference in the specs but did notice that the wholesale price of SX4's was "lower" than comparable SX3 models (for example the SX4 field is around 100 bucks cheaper than an SX3 field) - so they must have cut some corners somewhere - and the SX4 "should be" on the shelf for a lower price than the SX3.

There was no notice/indication at all from Browning that the SX3 would be discontinued.
I noted one subtle hint as to where the cost savings may be coming from, on Hunter model, the specs list the stock as being Turkish Walnut. Is it possible the new model is from from Winchesters source in Turkey rather than Belgium?
