Hi all,

New to the forum…. Great info so far. I have been hunting for 20 plus years. I recently bought a Winchester SXP 20g for my son and I want to mount a red dot on it for turkey. I was told I can’t drill and tap it because it has an aluminum receiver. I am aware I can use fibre optics but my son likes the red dot.

Can anyone suggest different options available? I looked in my area and can’t find any saddle mounts.

Any help would be appreciated.

Very hard to find any kind of aftermarket support for sxp. The one I owned for a short while was effective on turkey, but for any kind of sighting system I had to use the tru glo clamp on sights. You can’t even get the front sight all the way to the end of the barrel as it has a solid rib there. Pretty frustrating little shotgun. I far preferred the old 1300’s. I moved mine on.

Why did they say an aluminum receiver can’t be tapped for a rail? I’ve got a 12g with a rail that’s an aluminum receiver, you just can’t torque down screws as heavy as you do with steel. Look at torque values with aluminum and steel rings.
