The 4 notched Winchester SXP choke has an "improved cylinder" shot pattern for lead shot, and "modified" for steel shot.

But which is it for slugs?

Thanks!

Foster style rifled slugs can be fired through any choke. The SXP has an over bored barrel (slightly over sized compared to standard 12 ga barrels and not really a good design for slug shooting. I have a SXP and haven't bothered trying slugs it it as of yet.

I wouldn't run slugs through an SXP. Barrels are over bored to the point that slugs are unstable in the barrel.
Winchester also advises against it. You can try if you wish, but the slug will not perform as it would in a non back bored barrel.

I have been getting mixed reviews regarding this. Documentation seems to say that it's fine and even mentions the use of rifled slugs in the owners manual. I spoke to a Winchester rep regarding a scope mount and they said that these guns were designed to still work with slugs. I guess you mileage may vary. I'm going to give it a shot in a couple weeks while sighting in for turkey. We'll see how it goes with challengers.

It would be very interesting to see the results, I just recall the Browning people telling me not to run slugs in their Invector Plus style barrels.
Let me know how your experiment goes with the rifled slugs, I got an 18" defender barrel I would like to use, it doesn't see anywhere near the action the 28" does.
