I'm shopping for another pump action and the Winchester SXP Desert Defender has caught my eye. I had the Trap model previously and enjoyed shooting it. I'm liking the idea of the 18" barrel threaded for Invector Plus chokes and the 5+1 capacity isn't bad. Intended use will be as an entry level 3-gun shotgun so I want to add the S&J +2 mag extension. Does anyone have pics of this setup? Curious if it will be flush with the barrel or if it extends further. Thanks.

Defender barrel threaded for chokes?
I have the SXP with defender barrel and 28" ribbed and threaded barrel. I installed Nordic components 5 shot extension for 3 gun with 28" barrel. Mag tube is equal length with barrel now

Nice Defender!

One thing to consider for 3G. Reloading with the loading gate / feed ramp. I find reloading slower and awkward with double reloading. I also have a Mossberg 500 Persuader. The lift ramp rests above bolt when it's forward making reloading much easier.

Hey man I got the sxp defender and plus 2 extension just having had time to install it....I talked to Simon at s and j hardware several times and it will fit flush......you get a good shot gun for the money.....ask simon if they got any scratch and dent plus 2s for the defender....they shipped me one with a little scratch for like 45$ sweet set up for under 400$ cant loose....these actions are fast...short stroke...and butter smooth......I wish the new version of the marine model had a chrome receiver as well as mag tube.....Winchester should of made a run of those I'd buy 2

The Mossy 500 Persuader is on the short list. But for only $20 more the SXP has a better recoil pad and is threaded for chokes. Granted I would need the mag extension to match the capacity of the 500. Is the Persuader's barrel thick enough to have it threaded? I know the 590 series is but they do cost more.

Here's a thread from S&J with a photo.

Just FYI; The mag tube dedents will need to be removed in order to add the extention. They can either be drilled out, or dremeled down.

Also, the same Desert Defender caught my eye when it was initially released.
Although the gun itself is fine, I couldn't get past how poor the colour looked in person. It's a very fake looking almost pastel like beige colour. NOT the desert tan or FDE gun owners are accustomed to.

So I just ordered the SXP Dark Earth Defender from Reliable and the +2 mag extension happened to be on sale at S&J so I ordered that too. I'll post a pic of the combo once I get it installed.

I have this set up but in black. The tube extension sits perfectly flush with the barrel after you take the stupid worthless "breacher" choke off and put a normal in. Gun runs nicely, but after a recent camping trip it returned without the rear sight and the buttstock sling mount is a cheap POS.

Got the shotgun today. Glad I went with the dark earth and not the desert tan. Just waiting for the shipment from S&J to show up and then I will post pics. First impressions, much better overall quality than either the Mossberg 500 or 870 Express. This thing feels solid and you can shake it all you want, nothing rattles. Everything locks up nice and tight. I am not surprised though. As I said before, I did own the 30" trap model previously. My only complaint is the finish seems a little weak. I have already chipped it a little bit around the ejection port from cycling those metal A-Zoom snap caps. Anyone know what kind of finish Winchester puts on these things?

So got the mag extension in the mail today. Sadly, it does not fit. It will only go in about one turn and then I get a lot of resistance. On closer inspection it looks like the thread pitch is different than the factory mag cap. I've attached a lousy pic for reference. I have sent an email to S&J and will update this thread once they get back to me.

S&J sent me a second one to try out and sadly, it too does not fit. Looks like Winchester may have changed something up on the mag tube. So much for my entry level 3-gun 7+1 shotgun. 5+1 it is...

Just picked up a Field/Camp combo with 28"/18" barrel. Was hoping to go with the +2 extension, but I guess I can't.
