I see the Winchester SXP Defenders are popping up for sale now. Has anyone handled/shot one of these yet? I'm a big fan of the 1200/1300 shotguns (defenders mostly) and I'm thinking that a new sxp would go nicely in my colection. I'm just wondering if anyone with experiance with the gun has any information they'd like to share. It would be appreciated.

Winchester SXP

Winchester’s 1300 was an underrated pump gun: light, cheap, and very fast-cycling, with a rotary bolt similar to the Benelli Nova. The 1300 is back, now called the “SXP.” It’s now made in Turkey but it’s the same design although now it comes only in matte black. Currently, 26-inches is the shortest barrel you can order, but for an MSRP of $399, you can lug a few extra inches of barrel around. Winchesterguns.com

I'd be taking the shotgun apart and pulling the action out and having a look before buying. See what the changes are inside, might just as well take a 1300 barrel along and see if it is interchangeable.

You can get the SXP defender model with the 18" cyl bore barrel. This is the gun I'm curious about. Wondering if anyone has handled one.

take a 1300 defender barrel with you then, as the magazine length is different than a standard 1300.. Still take it apart and have a look inside. youtube has a few videos on the new shotgun, still to new to find information on them from users.

Unfortunatly I won't be taking anything with me. I live in rural NS and if I decide to purchase one it will be online/mail order. Thats why I was looking for some input on the forums from someone who had handled one. (I'd have gone and looked myself if the option was available)

I'll just leave the thread sit for a while. I see that one of the CGN sponsers, as well as some Canadian mail order companys have the defender models in stock so there will soon be some nutz picking them up. In the meantime I'll check out youtube.

Hello 1300_Stainless:

You might want to try visiting http://www.shotgunworld.com to see if anyone has experience with the gun in question. I bet you will probably find someone with experience with this gun there. Good luck.

Chizzy

Made in Turkey.

It's the new Tomahawk!
(a joke for the ppl who remember the turkish tomahawks from marstar from a few years ago)

when i went to the toronto sportsmans show i fondled one at their booth and just earlier to going i bought an old school 1300 defender this new one feels really comfortable and action is smooth as silk if i want another pump i'd buy one for sure just fit me great felt better and lighter than my 870 !

I just bought one. Got it from labarons. $305 + tax. Fits me really nice. Very smooth action. Light weight 6.5 pounds. I was looking for an 870. Tried both and liked the defender much better.
