Looking into buying a Winchester SXP from a guy I know.

It looks like its brand new, white bead sight and 26" smoothbore barrel. He wants 350$ for it.

My question is: What does everyone think about them? Are they good shotguns? Worth the money?

Thanks in advance!

Camo or black?

We sell it for $350 at my work brand new in the box, however at least this way you'd save $45 in tax

I actually have one set aside to buy myself if it helps your decision

Hey guys, it's black and 3". Based on what I'm reading I'm going to ask for him to drop it down to 300$.

It seems more reasonable considering you can get a two barrel combo for about 400 without tax.

Thanks for all your imput!

9000 shells through mine without any issues. Highly recommended. 350 is steep for a used one, considering I paid a hair under 400 for a Camp & Field Combo.

How's the finish holding up after all that?

she has a little wear on the barrel,(scuff marks) and a small indent on the hammer, but isn't causing any problems.
If you would like more info, I posted a review on shotgunworld.com under the shotgun opinions subform.

I used to own the SXP defender model. It is a fast handling, lightweight, ergonomic pump shotgun that allows rapid cycling.
However, the 3 dollar plastic magazine throat got a chip in it one day, and after that the shotgun would not cycle reliably. Winchester customer service directed me to a parts dealer in edmonton, and upon speaking to them there I discovered that winchester did not yet make spare parts for the SXP line. A similar but incompatible part for the Winchester 1300 was the closest thing I could find. Hopefully by now they make spare parts for what they sell.

In short, Winchester customer service, engineering, and QC are JUNK and I don't think I'll buy any more guns from them.

I think all manufacturers have issues, especially in this mass produced firearm price range. I have been real happy with my SXP and have already put over 500 rounds through it. Not one issues to speak of. In this price range I was seriously looking at the Mossberg, Remington, and SXP. I went with the Winchester SXP because, of the three, it had the better feel. It was tight and smooth. Both the Mossberg and Remington just didn't feel as well made. Again though, I think any of them would have done what I was looking for, and I'm sure all have issues. To answer the OP's question I have been more than happy with my purchase of the SXP and have zero regrets. After 500+ rounds it's still as tight as the day I bought it and the action has become even smoother. Positive opinion here.

Just Go to a gun shop and get then to put a new bead in. If it is just a white bead you need a tool for it. Otherwise buy a fiberoptic for an sx3 prob the same thread to mount the bead.

Yeah, it was a white bead.

As far as the gun goes it is very comfortable to handle. I just need to oil it up to get rid of the roughness. The guy who sold it to me hasn't used it or oiled it since last season so the action is a little rough.

I'll go to my local shop tomorrow and report back!

Thanks again everyone!
