Sold my shotgun years ago. Had Browning Gold Auto loader. Loved it. Never shot enough and I felt it was to nice a wood to lay in the field with.

Been thinking of a good, lower priced all around bird shotgun.

The bit I have seen about the SXP is it is a decent gun. The few stores I have talked to have said one of there biggest sellers the last few years.

Any Cons to them?????

The only thing negative I see is they don't fit like the original 1300s they fit like the SX3 and other browning guns with the high comb and very little drop at heel.

But if you shot that browning gold well than you should should the pump well.

I traded my Remington for the SXP and have never been happier with a trade. I am not entirely sure how many shells have gone through it but its at least 300 and the last owner claimed 200. I have only had one fail to eject. For some unknown reason it did not clear the ejection port. I will never be with out this shotgun. My only regret is not getting the combo so I could have the second shorter barrel.

I like mine. Has fired every time I pulled the trigger. It was my first shotgun and it fit the best out off all the ones I held in the shop. Rattled less too.

You have to get a little used to the assisted backwards motion of the pump but once you do its a breeze to cycle.

Lots through mine no issues function well smooth action. Injector plus chokes on the other hand... I replaced mine with extended chokes.

I have one as well. It fits small for me but I bought it as a loaner/teacher/hunter as I don't want to use my nice target guns for all of that. It is a lot of fun- the speed pump takes getting used to but is great. I also got it for a great price at Sail when they had the 15% off sale they do sometimes. I'm fully happy with it- and surprised at the quality of such an inexpensive shotgun. My gun has at least 1000 target loads through it and it is broken in nicely now. Never a problem with it- when held correctly it punches the shell out like a semi!

I have had a few, the Field, Waterfowler and Security. If I had to do it all over again I would get the Black Shadow. The wood on the Field is gorgeous, it is my favourite shotgun I own. The wood was so nice, and I liked the gun too much to bring out duck hunting in the swamp. So I went and got the Waterfowler. I used it for opening weekend, took it home and found the camo finish was peeling off the receiver where the mag tube and barrel enter. I went through the warranty process, which took close to a year, only to get my new gun with the camo finish peeling in the same area, it has sat in my safe untouched since. They wouldn't return emails and I didn't want to be without the gun for another year so I just accepted the fact it is a crappy finish. Likely the last Winchester I will buy though due to their poor customer service.
The Black Shadow has synthetic stock for rough use and no camo finish to peel off. The finish on the non camo guns scratches easily, seems common with Turkish guns I have seen recently. It's a good priced gun, just don't expect much support from Browning Canada, they were terrible.

i had one, loved it except for the camo finish. ended up selling it and later came up with an 870. 870 is a nice gun but I'm looking to get into an sxp again. its weird getting used to the pump on the sxp but after you get used to it, it makes other pumps weird. if that makes sense... lol.

bought SXP combo a week ago, took it home and right out of the box had a problem, trigger assy defective, (dry) shot first randomly then nothing.
Called the authorized service and was told b/o, 6-7 months wait. , plus I was not able to find a exploded view with part ## and that tells me that most likely I won't be able to fix it myself but relay on authorized gun shop with a lot of problems/wait time.
Took it back to the Sail store and thanks to pragmatically thinking manager we swapped the trigger group from a display gun.
Went duck hunting and no problem so far, will try it on trap range for a further assessment, but I'm already thinking of selling it..

My Stoeger had a broken firing pin plunger after nearly 30 years of regular use, took one phone call to Stoeger Canada and got the part in 5 days.
Next purchase will be definitely a make that has a better technical/parts support behind it.

Sounds like Browning Canada hasn't changed much. Sounds like you got lucky at Sail. I bought mine there as well. They basically said that once I leave the store, any issues are not their problem.

I like hearing stories like yours on Stoeger. I had a similar experience with Henry with a Lever gun. Just last week went in to Bushnell Warranty centre with an old scope I haven't used in about 15 years. After mounting it I noticed the rectile would move when I turned the zoom all the way to one extreme. They looked at it, gave me a brand new, next model up Banner scope, all in about 5 minutes. Good service is worth a lot in my eyes. I blacklist any company with bad customer service.

I bought my SXP waterfowl from Sail too. The gun is fantastic, I really love it. I bought the gun about a month before turkey season and when I took it home I realized that it was missing the barrel plug. Sail wouldn't do anything but told me I had to go through Winchester/Browning. It was frustrating dealing with them (both Sail & Winchester/Browning), but I finally got them (browning) to send me a barrel plug. I got it about 2 days after turkey season ended and the barrel plug I got was too long. I went back to them again and explained the issue, and my frustration. Also - the gun was supposed to come with your choice of a $50 rebate or a sling & soft case. I chose the latter but I was told that Canada had extremely limited quantities that were mostly gone in the first day. I was only eligible for a $25 rebate (half of what I told at Sail). I raised a bit of stink about the barrel plugs and not getting the softcase/sling etc. A few months later I get two barrel plugs in the mail - the same long one I already had, but also a short one that works perfectly. A few weeks after that I get an email that they were able to find one last unit of sling/softcase and it's in the mail.

It was a bit of a frustrating experience but in the end they made it right, and I'm a happy customer. I didn't miss any hunting season as I ended up buying a remington universal barrel plug (I know I could have made one out of wood, but I was a bit peeved about it missing on my brand new shotgun). The sling & soft case combo was my purchasing decision over other shotguns I was considering at the time, as the value of the combo is far more than the $25 rebate alternative.

I don't have any issues with the camo finish peeling or anything like that. It shoots well and I've harvested turkeys and many geese with it. Lots of clays as well.

Ditto. Bought the Field and Camp combo. Love having both options for 3-gun/plinking and Turkey hunting.

Have an earlier Defender with fixed cylinder bore and a BlackShadow. Both have been reliable and the BlackShadow I was using for skeet to see if I liked the game and had good results on the doubles , recently picked up a Red Label for skeet but still shoot the SXP for trap and have no complaints. Downside is replacement parts, but for the money if it does break I'll just buy another.

Next time you disassemble it, look at the front of the receiver where the mag tube goes in. It is usually hidden by the fore grip. It may be peeling or bubbling. I have had two like this, and others have had the same.

I have a black shadow and for the money it has done me well. I have several thousand rounds through it this year and thus far the only issue I have had is with the ejector sticking but that is a two second fix. Sometimes a bit of dirt gets stuck just in the right spot so it doesn't spring back properly. A quick blast of CLP and we are back in business.

I got the 3.5" in camo as my first ever new shotgun. Camo finish is great on mine, no peeling or bubbling. Some people hate the action, I found I love it. All depends on the users preference.

You need to let it go man. I am very sorry I didn't like the 870 Express.
I am so sorry your feeling were hurt, I hope you can overcome this.
I don't recall beating the 870 Express, I simply stated what I didn't like about it, I wasn't alone. I thought this was a forum for adults to discuss firearms, and share our views. I can't believe your knickers are in a knot because I didn't like the gun you seem to get off on. Should we not give honest opinions about firearms in fear of hurting the fragile? Should we set up a new sub-forum as a safe space for folks easily hurt? We can call it "Sunny Ways".

The tears may have made you miss the fact that is was a discussion on the SXP. I find the SXP shot much better for me than the 870 Express, that is why I still have it. It fit me better, it points better, it isn't picky on what shells it will eject, it feels lighter, the receiver is made of an alloy that won't rust. What are your views on the SXP?
