Winchester Unveiling

Another year waiting to see if Winchester will bring back the LH M70s, another year that hope is dashed. Guess I'll be sticking with the ol .270 and 30.06. Interested to see what the announcement will be though! I should learn to shoot the "right" way so I can at least get hyped up over these announcements haha!

Winchester firearms (Winchester Repeating Arms - part of FN which also owns Browning Firearms - BARCO) is a different company than Winchester Ammunition (Olin Corporation)

Not a fan of 270 anything, but I'd be all over an M70 featherweight compact in 6x45mm (6mm/223) though. Great round to load for and a sweetheart to shoot
on deer sized critters and coyotes out to 300+ yds. ;)

I'll stick to the old tried-and-true cartridges, and let the trendies have fun.;)

not a fan of the new stuff ... sure it great

but can you find ammo ???

looks to be a custom case ...... large case with a very small rim

the way the ammo/ guns futures look you might be able to find some 2-3 years

Last I heard the ammo makers were 1 billion dollars backordered and working 7 days a week

demand is bigger than supply

Wondering if this is thought of as a Ar10 cartridge, with that heavily rebated rim, I see 22 nosler. Short and fat I know, but 22 nosler in semi's ruined that rim on extraction. Impossible to find brass, or formed from .....what case.....that lasts one firing. That would have to be sorted or it would die quick and messy.

My desire would be that if it became successful, new projectiles would help other calibers in the bore. A long throated rebore of a 270 win, launching 175-180 gr bullets.

That’s my way of thinking. Hard enough to get common caliber ammo right now, and it may only get worse with current political situation on both sides of the line.

While not really on topic, I'm somewhat miffed that a .270-308 was never attempted as a commercial cartridge. As with the .30/06, almost everything the .308 has been necked up or down to became a commercial success, but they never tried a .277 version.

As to the 6.5s, I wonder how long before the US military realizes that sharp shouldered rounds don't function particularly well in gas guns, and switch to the .260 Remington.

But what if it comes with a 39” barrel and Ammo loaded at 80,000psi? :)

Not interested for another new wiz-bang cartridge that really has no wiz-bang; ie: 6.5, 22, 6mm Creedmore, et al. However, I can recognize that gun/ammo manufactures wish to stimulate the market by attracting yuppie/trendy gun enthousiasts.

It was a fairly common wildcat back in the 60's and early 70's. There was also a 270-300 Savage. - dan

My bad! I've researched the firearms manufacturing side of Winchester quite a bit, but it never occured to me that Winchester Ammunition would be a different company. Learn something new everyday as they say! That said, would Winchester Ammunition be working with BARCO to provide a rifle to chamber a new cartridge, or is that up to rifle manufacturers? I'm just wondering how it works if the ammunition manufacturer is seperate from the firearm manufacturer. Muddied up question, I know, but looking forward to what you think.

Looks interesting - I shot a 300 and 325WSM for a while and didn't keep them. Pretty sure I'll just stick with a 7x57, it's worked since 1892 and it still works fine for me now.

Actually Winchester Firearms is not part of Browning per se .Browning leases the right to use the Winchester name on firearms ,from Olin Corp.,which owns Winchester Ammunition and the rights to the Winchester name.
