I want to stock up on a bunch of .243 factory ammo for brass.

With the price of un-primed brass now a days ($40.00/50 Winchester) it would be more fun to buy factory loaded ammo and shoot it first...um for 'fire forming' of course...

Would you buy the Winchester Super x for $24.99 or the Remington Core-lokt for $29.99 a box (my local pricing)?

Taxes in the Winchester will cost 48 cents a shot and the Remington will cost 76.4 cents a shot minus the brass cost.

My suggestion would be to pay the small extra cost to get Lapua Brass. It is significantly better than the Remington or Winchester, and is just over a buck a cartridge. If you reload carefully and don't over size down your cases, and anneal the neck, you can get 20+ reloads out of a Lapua case.

However between Remington and Winchester, I would say that Winchester gets the slightly better reputation. The neck brass thickness is a little less and more uniform. That said I just bought some Remington cases on EE and they are pretty good. Neck brass thickness is high at about 0.016". Winchester is likely closer to 0.013".

Just my thoughts. If I had a choice in my cartridge I would go with Lapua.

Winchester brass is better in my experience. I bought new, Remington and by second load some necks were already splitting. I've fired Winchester brass several times FL sizing and only the primer pockets are getting loose. As to the consistency of Winchester neck thickness: I recently neck turned some new 30-06 and it was worthwhile turning for a match rifle... about 0.0015" from true if memory serves.
