Winchester XPR. Anyone have one?

I have a couple of Browning AB3's, the XPR is just a cheaper made version of that using a Savage type barrel nut and separate recoil lug like an Axis. AB3 mags are better quality and hold more rounds as well.
AB3 is decent but I would not buy an Xpr for the same price.

The only thing the XPR has in common with the AB3 is the bolt body, and the fact they are made by the same parent company. Not sure why you always connect the 2.......

OP, the XPR is a decent rifle for the money. It's kind of a mix-match of ideas from other rifles/mfgs, but all together not too bad.

It uses the same barrel and trigger as the Winchester M70, a safety similar to the Sako A7 and a mag system pretty close to the Tikka T3. Yes it has a barrel nut system like the Savage, but the wafer style recoil lug is machined into the action like the Tikka T3 / Sako A7 system, not like the Axis (Axis is between the action/barrel).

I haven't personally shot one, but I've shouldered a couple and worked the actions.
Decent rifle, with some good features.

Well lets see...FN owns Browning and Winchester for one thing, the bolt and receiver are made at the same place (Japan), the receivers are the SAME, the triggers/safeties are different but are both bolt on affairs to the SAME receivers (see pics below).
The syn stocks are the same material, with the same recoil pads (inflex).
Winchester barrel is made in Portugal vs the Japanese barrel on the AB3. Profile is a bit different between the receivers but they are basically the same tubes. #### single column all plastic mag on XPR and the detached recoil lug along with Savage nut and being made in Portugal is what I mean by a cheaper ####tier AB3. AB3 comes factory glass bedded as well.
It's like the Axis is a cheaper ####tier Model 110, same thing with the XPR and AB3.

Your FYI picture illustrates my point exactly.
The recoil lug on the Axis is between the action and the barrel nut.

The OP is asking about the XPR, not the AB3.

You said between action and barrel for the Axis, which was not correct. A normal recoil lug like on the AB3/700 etc is sandwiched between the barrel and receiver.

XPR is still just a cheaped out AB3 anyway you look at it.

OP:
Should you decide to purchase one, try and find the "PROMO" model.
Same price as the regular XPR, but you get an extra mag, bases and scope rings.
Good starter set up.
 
How does it shoot? Lots of features talk but no range experience! Someone please post a target, how does it shoot factory ammo? Anyone handload for one?
 
I'm sure they shoot just fine, good accuracy is not expensive to produce these days. A cheapo Axis shoots MOA or better most of the time and these are much more refined.

Apparently it's a standard Winchester barrel with a Win MOA trigger. The bolt & action look beefy. I'd like to see how much steel surrounds the bolt face when in battery. Read a review that had it shooting sub-MOA with handloads. 30-06 has a 24" barrel... hmmm
 
The bolt looks good. I didn't like the stock it looked cheap. They did mention Boyd's aftermarket stocks for it but the it's turning into an 900 base gun. I did find some videos and accuracy looked good.

Well yes they do have a big beefy bolt with a short throw, and I'll plug the AB3 again as I think you get a bit better gun for the same price. It's the only gun I ever had that after mounting the scope it was zeroed... Literally in the bull at 100m, needed 2 clicks and that's it. I've never had a gun where all the components lined up dead on like that in my life lol.
In Walnut they run around $600-$650 and you can usually get a mail in rebate for $50-$75 couple times a year. This is my .308 and it shoots MOA or better with everything I tried so far. With the Leupold VX-1 scope/bases/rings it was less then $900.
Other gun you should look at are the Howa's and Vanguards, probably the best buy in a budget rifle these days.

From the M70's I've owned with the MOA trigger and the XPR's I've fondled, They're both all metal

Metal. Same trigger as the model 70's. Easily adjustable to what you like. Also if you like there are aftermarket triggers to replace the moa on the m70. The ab3 has nothing as the trigger is int eh trigger guard and not part of the assembly.
