Wind Drift

How far are some of you guys comfortable shooting in gusty wind? I have proven to myself that my Knight Disc is capable of the 200 yard shot in extremely controlled circumstances (predator rest, still & cool morning), but that any amount of wind will detrimentally affect the POI.

If you guys where in a situation where a doe presented itself between 170 - 180 yards with a 10-15 Mph crosswind would you take the shot? To much lead, you shoulder it, to little, you gut it. None of which are humane by any means and would result in a lenghty track Be honest - no "Hail Mary" heros here. I now know that I would not.


Before I get the "3x50 pellet w/250SST is King" - Huntsman was shooting this load in his Encore w/a Nikon Omega. Even he was 5"-6" off the mark @ a lasered 178 yards. We didn't even want to try the 200 mark at that point.

Well, considering it's always windy here in the praries a 10mph wind is just a breeze. However seeing as I only practice out to 100 yds. ( I'm sighted in 2" high @100yds.), I would not feel comfortable with that shot. In all honesty though if a 200 " buck was standing there I would probably try it.

I'm also sighted in 2" high at 100yards...A cross-wind is such a hard thing to judge...your bullet might be off by as much as 6" due to the wind. Add this onto a fudge factor of 4" and you're in trouble. I don't think I would take the shot either, but like Big Game said, if a 200" buck is standing there??? I know the size of the rack should not influence the shoot/no shoot decision but somehow it just does.
