Windham Gas Block Question

I just received my Windham Weaponry Carbon AR-15 and noticed a odd piece at the bottom of the gas block.

See photo below.

What is this piece? Windham seems to have put it on a few if their models.

Any ideas?

You are either referring to the sling loop or the bayonet lug.

Must be the bayonet lug. Thanks for the info. I wonder why they put the lugs on their rifles. Common on other manufacturers?

Because that's what original M4/M16s have. I'd say most AR15s with an A2 FSB have the bayonet lug, not too common on railed/low profile gas blocks (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm new to the AR game).

I would not trust any set screw or most clamp on gas blocks to stay in place when subjected to the abuse of a bayonet hammering into things.
The US would not let ARs out of the country for years so many manufacturers made compliant rifles so they could sell to Canada so for years there were no lug equipt rifles coming in.
