Wingmaster price check

wierd, a fixed choke on a modern Wingmaster hunting barrel? is it vent rib?
why the hell gun manufacturers continue to put fixed chokes on anything but 18" barrels is beyond me. chokes are the entire point of a shotgun.

I looked at it today. I should have bought it, but didn't - the finish was in pretty rough shape, which wouldn't have bothered me, and it would have made a great gun for the kind of hunting I do. But I already have guns I should sell before I buy more for myself. At least, that's what my wife thinks. :(

Every once in a while I go blow some more money on hunting/shooting stuff to show her who's boss :D :D  but we just had to buy a new car so it wasn't a good move at the moment. I kinda hoped I could flip the gun but it was in pretty gnarly condition for that.

870 Wingmasters have been offered since the 1950s with a 3" chamber as an option, but I think it probably became standard on all 870s at about time that steel shot became mandated in the US for waterfowl.

Rem Choked 870 barrels were introduced in 1986 and are all 3" as far as I know.

More information on older 870s can be found here:

The guy was sort of in a hurry so I didn't see the barrel stamps.

Interesting - like every other New Brunswicker (it seems) he is selling off a bunch of guns to buy a .22-250. Pretty soon there will be more .22-250s in the province than any other rifle, thanks to our stupid varmint hunting laws . . .

You can't carry anything bigger than a .22 (centerfire or rimfire) unless you have a valid moose, bear, or deer tag . . . and the moose and deer seasons are fairly short. Bear season is about two months in the spring and some more in the fall, but if you fill your tag early, you're out of luck .. . . so a lot of guys are buying .22-250s because they use them on deer and coyotes both.

I have wingmaster in 16 gauge. i believe it was made in 2002. i bought it in 2006 and paid 550$ for it. no extra slug barrel or anything like that. i'm from northern ontario so maybe we pay more for guns around here since it's an 8 hour drive south to toronto to get any real selection. it seems though that prices vary from one dealer to the next and also one region to the next.
