Hi folks,

I went to the Gatineau Airport this past Saturday Sept. 17th, what a great day this was. Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane, Corsair... and to cap it all off, the Snowbirds.

Here are a few pics, and a link to one of my photobucket albums for more pics and videos. Hope you enjoy,

Lou

They did a fly-by in formation Thurs around Ottawa, was very cool to see and the very unique sound of the radial engines.
I am sure i saw a "Sabre" in the group as well.
Too bad no one told them about the Milsurp match Sat at EOHC,
maybe they would have done a fly by there:cool:

A perfect day: Gun show in the morning, shooting in the afternoon, war bird airshow in the evening. :D

Thanks for the pics and videos.

Lanc, Spit, Hurri and Mustang all had Merlins, P-40 had an Allison: all V-12s that just HUMMMMMMMMMMMM along so smoothly.

Harvard sounds like a gigantic FAN from all the racket from that narrow-bite prop, Corsair sounds like it's gonna die on you until you hit the throttle........ then the world shakes.

Most wonderful sound I ever heard was a pair of Avro 504s, a Nieuport and a Pup, all revving up those rotaries at the same time. They have what Nevil Shute called a "crackling hiss"..... and the rest of the world thinks of as a Lawn-boy on steroids. Either shut off or wide open: nothing in between. And CLOUDS of castor-oil smoke!

These look to have been a wonderful sight.

Thanks for some great photos.

Brought the Old Man out... even though he was on a Halifax, he loved seeing the Lanc. after all these years.

And since we're on the Milsurps ... what better place to view some nice Brownings??

Would have been great if something could have been setup for that.

For the first photo, if you take the Kittyhawk out, you have the Battle of Britian Memorial Flight!

Chofo, please thank your father for his service from the GunNutz!!

Actually, if you wanted authenticity for the Battle of Britain type aircraft, you would have a picture of an empty sky.

The P-40 KittyHawk was first used by the British in North Africa in 1941.

The Avro Lancaster entered Service in 1942.

The P-51 Mustang entered Service in 1943.

And the Hurricane is armed with 20 mm Cannon, which indicates 1942 or later.

The Lanc was in Windsor two weekends ago and while she didn't fly the crew did a few ground runs. I managed to score a seat in the wireless op's position for the run on Sunday. I tell ya, feeling the old girl come to life was the experience of a lifetime! There's a few videos on my youtube channel if you wanna check out the video from the inside of the Lanc.

I grew up near RCAF base Centralia where they trained first on Harvards, then later Chipmunks. We were in their low flying area. Once a Chipmunk flew over so low when we were hoeing beans that my sister lay down between the rows. When he got near the end of the field he saw a skinny elm tree in front of him and had to hit the throttle and pull up. Just staggered over the top of it with smoke from gypsy engine exhaust. Still can pick out the sound of a radial engine. Most summers three yellow radial engined biplanes fly North over our place on Manitoulin. Always wonderwhere they are bound. Have seen the odd Harvard too.
