Not sure myself, but I've been meaning to pick up some land ownership maps of the surrounding municipalities to try find some crown land.

everyone guess no longer i found a sweet spot totally legal to shoot there couple hundred yards of open ground and directly off the hichway!!!
head east on highway 44 past beausejour pass sedons corner and then keep your eyes on the right side they'll be a trail leading in the forest and about 10 feet in the pits start

I use to be with the 2PPCLI in Wpg and was just wondering if the military 600m range was still there, just west of the city?

St Charles is still there and active, between 17wing 38brigade and the DCRA the place is still pretty busy.

So other than an actual range, does anyone know of any good spots around winnipeg (within a half hour to 45 mins.) that I can just go and set up targets? Old quarries or something? Not sure if that is even legal, but am curious.

There is gravel pit just east of Anola. I used to shoot there all the time.

There are two pieces of crown land within 1 hour of Winnipeg that I've found and gone shooting at. They are fairly popular places so you may run into other people out there. I'd love to hear if people have found other places as well.

Wow - all this driving around makes Selkirk's $50 membership seem like a steal all of a sudden

Problem with that is they don't allow guests

I dunno about you guys, but whenever I go shooting I like to bring a friend or two.

Guests can come to watch at Selkirk...but due to insurance and safety reasons, they are not allowed to shoot. cannot really blame the club . For my own safety there, as I am a member, I have seen some pretty scary incidents with novices, and would prefer the person have knowledge of club rules and etiquette. There are areas around the city where you can take "buddies" to plink.

Gravel pits may seem all fine and dandy, but some company usually owns the mineral rights. And if they are or have or about to start crushing rock etc. Shooting there is still trespassing.

Get a membership at Selkirk, it cost about the same as 18 holes of golf and is a hell of alot more fun.
