winny powerpoints or silvertips?

Hmmmm I guess it would greatly depend on what your hunting...

I would use either one on deer. Moose/bear I would go for the silvertip.
The silver tips tend not to seperate as much

I've always liked the silvertips myself. My father also swears by them in his 375 H&H. The power points are basically the same bullets you can get on the cheap in the bulk bullet bags. They'll kill game with a good hit, to be sure, but the silvertips seem to mushroom out to gigantic proportions better.

I will suggest the Accubonds over the BST anyday for larger calibers and big game animals.

I don't think he is questioning about the ballistic silvertips:). The regular Winchester silvertips work great on big game. I would definately choose them over the power points. Mind you, expect to pay more for the silvertips.

Makesure you check the ballistics on the Win website.

I lost a moose once with 180 gr powerpoints, in 308, it was hit atleast 3 times at 150 yards. Before losing that moose I noticed some questionable performance on moose but was too cheap to change.

After losing that moose, looking at the ballistics and talking with other hunters I moved to the silvertip and have never had an issue. I reload now with 165 Hornady Interbonds

Silvertips are good and are at least as good as many premium factory ammo.

Reloading is the real answer to questions about tailoring ammo to your needs.

While I do not exactly agree with that statement, Regular (not BST) Silvertips are quite adequate when they are driven at relatively modest velocities. At one time, they were available as a reloading component, and I still have a box+ of the .308 - 150 grain persuasion. But I only use them in my 300 Savage, where they work fine. Even at 30-06 velocities, the 150's are pretty explosive, and I could only imagine what they would be like in a 30 cal magnum. That being said, they have undoubtedly accounted for a lot of game, and should be fine with a heart/lung shot. Regards, Eagleye.
