Winter entertainment

Looking a lot like a Falling Block Works large size action.

Sorta Winchester-ish, but not quite.

I too am interested in how you did your square hole. I need a box of assorted sizes of them under the bench so I can pick the one I need, when I need it. :)

What the H? - You think I get over time on weekends.....
As stated, the unround hole is by wire EDM.
Started on the bottom tang

Got it to slide into the action

Started on the trigger

Well, that's all for a some days, as there is some painting to do in the "ole log cabin" (LOL).
Have patience, I will be back at it fairly soon.

Oh the things I would do with an EDM. Lucky ba$$tard ;)

Yeah, no kidding!

Ever see the builds that Bailey Bradshaw documented? He has an older wire EDM that he uses a lot. Well worth digging around the web to see. His Damascus Double Rifle is very cool!

Kinda feel a dope-slap coming on for missing the earlier post where the EDM was noted. DoH!

Likin' the project a lot!

Well, at it again. Finished the painting and escaped the cold for a few days.
Just witnessed the poverty in Mexico. Some young ladies can only afford a few scraps of cloth and some string to hold it on. I wanted to help them out, but my wife objected.....

Started on the hammer

Excess trimmed and sorta shaped up

No, I don't have an EDM, but a few $$ is a substitute.

Some more progress.
Hammer semi finished, mounted, and firing pin installed

Trigger complete

Some shaping on the action

Main spring blank shaping up

Finished spring

Getting closer.
Any guesses....?

Looks mostly Winchester High Wall, but not quite.

Profile of the action is pretty close to that of one of the larger Falling Block Works models.

Gonna be a cool piece of hardware anyway.

Cut to the chase
More shaping done

Barrel fitted

So, Yes it is a Hi-wall (95%), cartridge is 22-250.
The barrel used to be on my old Hi-wall, so reused along with the fore-end that I made for it.
Someone questioned the breech block angle, it is 5 degrees, that was good enough for JMB and Winchester, so I went with that.
Should be finished the build in a week or so, hopefully.

Wasn't good enough for JMB, he made his guns with no angle to the breech block.

Winchester made theirs at 5 degrees to help cam a recalcitrant case into a chamber.
