I have missed this years CAS season really at my club and will be shooting indoors mostly over the winter for proficiency so my question is this....

If I can only afford one pistol now anyways should I get a Pietta in 22 and work the mechanics of drawing and single action hammer/trigger and sighting work using a 22 cal SAA which is cheaper ammo but obviously less kick OR get a 357 and source some reloads until I can afford to tool up to reload myself.

Would the practice with the 22 be of any use and the ammo savings worth it or not?

Then next spring get 1 or 2 in 357 when I have saved up......

Get the .357 and shoot reloaded .38spl. With the .357 you can practice drawing and dry firing with snap caps as well. That alone makes it more worthwhile.

Thanks.... and even as I wrote that I realised I have a set of Umarex Colt SAA's that I can practice with even at eh farm so why not go straight to the competition calibre and yes I think I will be shooting 38spl and reloading myself eventually. Here is a clip of me shooting CAAS (Cowboy Airgun Action Shooting) this summer at the farm when our club had a "field day". We staged the pistols off the table since not all the guys had leather. The shot gun is a Crosman 1100 Trapmaster and the lever is the Umarex Walther Lever Action. Good cheap practice (once you buy the guns!)
