Winter long range shoot in northern Ontario ?

I feel sorry for the folks in Emo . The biggest industry was a car wash but they had to close it when the guy with the car moved . Forest cuts as big as ya want just north of Thunder Bay and frozen lakes in the winter , as well as the cuts , tower lines and pipelines . If the north road off Escape Lake road and/or Timmis Lake road are plowed for hauling this winter you can get 1,000 plus yard shots across the cuts at boulders . 16 miles up 527 and 5 miles in . Before deep snow the road opposite to Barnum Lake road dead ends and coming back to the next hill gives a 460 yard shot . That's 18 miles up and 1 mile in . At 17 miles up there is an unnamed road to the right . Hard to see so slow down . Big cuts as far as you can see . Shoot back towards the hill on the pipeline and you can shoot for a mile . Edmonson Lake road is always plowed so you can shoot from the shore across the ice to the rock walls on the far side or set target out on the ice . 1,300 yards to the rock wall on the island straight out and 700 yards to the far shore to the right . That's , hmmm... about 35 miles up and 1 mile in . The pit at the corner of 527 and Camp 45 road gets 325 yards . The other pipeline road between Mawn Lake road and Eaglehead Road gets you 700 yards to the hill . Fenson Lake road there are large ponds/small lakes everywhere with many having rock walls at the other ends . Shoot to 600 yards . Manchester Lake road off the Dorion Cutoff , just set up on the Dorion Cuttoff road and shoot straight down Manchester Lake road as it's never plowed but long , straight and flat . The only problem there is no boulders to shoot at so ya have to haul targets or plates through the snow . Don't do that until the snow comes 'cause in the fall there can be moose hunters in there . The bridge on the Dorion Cuttoff over the Wolfpup in the winter you can shoot either way up or down the river for hundreds of yards . The tower line off Fish Hatchery road ya can shoot as far as ya can send a bullet and there are boulders . The big boulder on the right off the north road off Escape Lake road is 840 yards . Big as a house but the black rock in the middle of the boulder is about 1 foot by 2 feet . Maybe that'll help someone who wants to shoot in the north .

Depending on range availability and travel, you might want to make it a postal match. One guy mails out a standard authenticated target to everyone on the list. They shoot within a given period, like a week or two weeks, and mail the targets back. All on the honour system, and easy to do. It might cost $5 per person.

I'm from the Sault and frequent Sudbury for work. I'd be down for a shoot.

I'm actually in Espanola for work right now. Not sure how long I'll be here though.

I'd also drive to Manitoulin for a shoot.

I am in Espanola

Ahhh .... Espanola ... The home of the best Chip truck stop in all northern Ontario! ... And a great bakery on the other side of the parking lot! ... Okay I'm in .... especially if either the bakery or chip truck is still serving! Although I don't think I will be riding the motorcycle this time

So what are the latest news on car pool to the shoot from southern Ontario? I will be up to split the costs but going on my own will be a long haul and a boring drive.

Hi Low: Under has invited me and kids over for a little shoot - I need to try a gun that has been sitting unfired in the safe - and I'm pretty sure this is going to be small and informal - and I will be no competition for anyone with nice guns.

It is a great idea to link up with guys that like to shoot - and girls too - kids should all have shooting experience. I betcha that if there was a list made up of who is looking for shooting buddies, there would be a lot more lead used and a lot more backstops and benches set up in the country.

If anyone wants buddies to shoot with in their area - just keep talking here - or open a new topic and start talking - someone in your area will join you for a cup of coffee and a shoot.

if anyone else in the Emo/Rainy River/Fort Frances area wants to join Anchor3593 and me on Saturday morning shoot me a PM. I have a nice bench to shoot from and targets out to 350 yards.

I am from Kingston, if a shoot happens up north I will be going. I can pick you up on the way. Keep an eye on this (I will too!) and if it happens PM me.

Good stuff, I think it would be a good idea for those interested, to post the car pool info or express their interest in it. I think we can have more people and more fun.

Juanvaldez has a great spot.

Look up the shoot from last year. It was a blast. Lot's of new faces and cool guns.

I am already working up loads for the 338 Edge and want to get an M305 ready for mid range.

A shoot near Emo, hell Deer Rifle season is still opened, setup on the bench and who knows what might pop by (if you're not tagged out). Cant wait to go back next year.
