Wishlist - 6.5CM, detach mag, light, handy, threaded.

Grab one of these Rem 783's when they show up here. Fits the mission, are fookin' accurate & they fit on a quad nice enough.;)

8lbs before scope. They actually weigh MORE than a standard 783 due to the heavy barrel.

OP I'm in the market for basically the same thing (although in 7mm08) and I've narrowed it down to the HOWA alpine mountain rifle, the Kimber hunter, or the new savage lightweight storm. These all weigh under 6lbs and cost under $1500. I haven't gotten my hands on the new Savages with the accufit stock yet, so I haven't decided which I want...

Absolutely love my Howa Alpine. Light, accurate, handles and points quickly AND the best part is I have no problems carrying it all day.

Yes it also comes with the detachable magazine kit. I however prefer the hinged floorplate on a hunting rifle as I don't like a mag sticking out where I would generally place my hand to carry it.

^ Prophet River had a 6.5 in stock last time I checked however the price is better at International by 100 bucks

I wish they made these in a left hand action, for the price they fit all the criteria for me. The accuracy I’m seeing people getting with them is pretty great for a budget rifle.

Great thread, thanks for all the input guys. I ended up with a like new but used Tikka t3x CTR in 6.5 for a fair price, but cheaper than one of the new ruger 6.5's.

+1 for the Winchester. Took a look at one at Ellwoods, not a bad little rig, threaded, and cheap as chips at around 600.

Second vote would go to a Tikka T3X Lite in 6.5($1025 at Al Flaherty's), Or order a Varmint SS from Reliable in Vancouver and Epps could thread it for you for $150. Not cheap.

You could buy a Tikka CTR in creedmoor, pre threadded, but you're looking at +$1300 in CM, I believe.
