I have been shooting trap with my Browning BPS hunter for a while now and I would like to buy a used Citori (under 1000 $). I have shoulder a few Citori at gun shows and they seem to fit me well. My concern is witch model or year should I seek (or avoid). The gun will be use mainly for trap but who knows perhaps a little sporting or …..
What do you recommend?
Thanks
GuyGeorges

Suggest you get a trap model, heavy, less recoil and easy on the shoulder. The early ones do not have screw in choke tubes, it's no disadvantage and they will be cheaper. All Citoris are well made and good value for money. There are none to be avoided.

I gotta tell you, GuyGeorges, you young folk have us old timers at a disadvantage. I didn't even know witches:stirthepot2: were zombies, let alone that Browning has a Citori model for witches.:stirthepot2:

Just curious, does a guy need a license to hunt zombies?

No license required, but the season is from Nov 1st to Oct 30th. Tag'em and bag'em!

Regarding the OP's original question, there are no "bad" Citoris, but if you are looking for Trap, look for 30" barrels or longer, and if you are looking for trap with skeet and hunting mixed in, look for 28" barrels. Under $1K isn't easy but they do come up.

If you get 325-625 Citoris, they are all similar action-wise. Furniture could be slightly different. Starting from 725, they changed the action and the gun feels very different.

Shoulder them before you buy them. Do not buy sight unseen.

Hey GuyGeorges.....I have owned Beretta's ( 686 & 687 ) and bought a field model 3.5" magnum and I just love it. Personally, I found the Beretta's very light whereas the Citori was a heavier gun which allowed "me" a smoother swing for skeet and sporting clays. Mine is a 28" barrel with the Invector Plus choke system and I use the Midas extended chokes. I held a new 725 this past July at a Sporting Clays shoot in Fredericton,NB and it felt like a dream. Just wishing that I would have waited in line for 1.5 hours to demo it on the skeet field to be able to give my thoughts on shooting it but, supper ( and the gang I was travelling with ) was calling. I like what others are posting about not buying without seeing and handling. Sometimes you can get something that doesn't fit and then sometimes you can. It's a gamble sometimes.......

Guy, be aware that not all citoris fit exactly the same. If you tried one and liked it, the exact same model and configuration will be what you like, but some small model change may mean you should try it for fit before committing to the purchase. Some target models have higher than average combs, and there are subtle but real differences in comb height between the field grade 12 ga and 20 ga guns for instance. I have a matched pair of white lightning 28" guns in .410 and 16 ga, and they fit me well. I owned a lightning model 28" 12 ga from the same era that was about 1/8" lower in the comb height, and although that doesn't sound like much it was enough to make me sell it and get something that fits better.
