Witch Savage 17 hmr wood or synthetic

Its the no tax event a Le baron and Sail and i want to buy a 17 hmr bolt action..

I have been reading and searching the forum and found nothing.

What im looking for : heavy barrel and if possible in SS, accu trigger, and best accuraccy possible.

For the stock im not sure: the riffle will be use for target and field, so the btvs or the one with the tomshold im not sure about them...

Now my question is what is the main difference between the WOOD and SYNTHETIC stock...

I know that there is the price and the weight of the riffle....but is there more accuracy with the wood stock??? Is the wood stock will last a life time.

What would you recommand me based on fact not taste.

I had the synthetic in 17hmr and .22 and found that with synthetic the heavy barrel models were a little front heavy...I'm not as carefull as I should be ....I changed my Savages to CZ's 17 & 22 wood stocks and yesterday the 17 was leaning against my truck slid sideways into the GRAVEL -----Now I wish they were synthetic----- The accuracy was great in the Savage synthetic HB. So if being a little front heavy isn't an issue for you and your using it for hunting and rougher conditions then synthetic is the way to go.....and that's my $0.02 worth...........TBG
 
Wood looks better in my opinion, synth is more weather friendly. Whether you get the wood or synth you will be happy i think, but if you prefer classic styling and workmanship i'd get wood or the synth may just look and feel cheap to you.

It has been said that the stainless rifles from Savage are more accurate than the blued ones when it comes to .17 HMR. I dont know if it is true or not but I bought my stainless so I would not have to maintain the exterior as much as the blued. I prefer wood so I do not mind carrying around some extra weight. It all depends on if your more comfortable with extra weight, if you want it to be more field weather resistant, and and what its MAIN purpose is. If its in the field and you want it light, go synthetic stainless for sure, if it is a bench shooter I say go wood and once again stainless.
 
It's hard to set up a rifle to perform to a full potential in both the field and at the range.

For field, you'd want something light and durable, so a Savage with a standard barrel and a synthetic stock would be your best bet. A field rifle is not expected to be fired incessantly, so a bull barrel would simply add weight, price and rifle imbalance.

A target rifle is meant to maximize comfort and performance. A bull barrel and a nice wood stock have a substantial advantage in such situations. Also note that the rifle's balance is not so important since most use is from the bench.

If you plan on using the rifle at the bench then forget the FV/FVSS versions. I have one, and I can tell you from first hand experience it is practically impossible to get a cheek weld with the synthetic stock. I bought mine without doing a lot of research, and it is a very accurate rifle, but if i were to do it over again I would get one with a monte carlo stock.
