While looking through the bottom of my rifles mag well I see a dime size area of light surface rust outside of
The chamber on the threads of the receiver. How can I clean this off since it's a tight area ? Is this a reason to be concerned since it's a new rifle?

Thanks

0000 steel wool and your favorite gun oil. Apply some oil to the area and put some wool on the end of a rod and scrub the area gently. The rust will come right off. Wipe away the slurry with a rag or something afterwards. As for worrying, I really wouldn't. Keep it lubed all over and it wont happen again.

Get some Wipe out. You will need some later on anyway. If you get the spray type just put a dab on the area and lightly work it with a tooth brush or some other very small bristle brush. If you use the liquid Wipe Out then apply it with one of those small brushes you find in a kids water paint set and can pick up at Staples for under a buck. Do the same as previously mentioned.

Let it soak for a few hours and it will soften the rust so you don't have to be to aggressive with steel wool. This is where a small brush comes in very handy. Most gun shops and Princess Auto carry brushes that are the size of a regular tooth brush on one end and on the other end only one row of bristles about a cm in length. This will reach into just about any action. If it won't some boiling water applied to the handle until you can bend it to the shape you need is easily done. Brush the soaked area lightly. The area brushed will quickly muck up with the emulsified rust and should be cleaned out with a patch on the end of your toothbrush. Repeat this until all that is left is bare metal where the rust was. Cold blue as needed.

Without pics to show where you are talking about it likely isn't much reason for concern unless it is in a cosmetically sensitive area. I am surprised your new rifle has rust on it though. The only ones I have seen with such issues are Norincos. Very few rifles are barreled in such a manner that the threads in the receiver are visible.

Pics would really tell the story.

It's a new rifle but it's obvious it was enjoyed at the manufacturers after it was made
Because there is slight wear lines in the reciever and on the bolt and bolt
Head , no Damage tho. It wasn't very clean inside the receiver and chamber when I got it.

You're relying way too much on the internet. The gun is new. If you're not happy with the fit and finish, go out and spend ~ 1500$ and report back. Savages strong points are low cost and good accuracy. Suggest you go out and shoot the rifle...

I agree, I think when I noticed it was dirty I began to pick it apart. As long as the wear is slight wear that is expected on a new rifle and it's not damaged I am happy with it. I'm just looking for advice and opinions since my
Experience with firearms is super minimal.

Get a can of Fluid Film, shake the snawt out of it.
Install the spray straw and give them threads a good sqwirt.
Let it sit for a day or so and take after it with a tooth brush,
shotgun fiber barrel brush or brush of your choice.

Dentist metal picks will harm the bluing.
I beleaf Canadian Tire had a pick set made out of material
other than metal.

Might be worthy of a gander if you have one of these stores
convenient to yer location.

Bronze brush.. you can get an Otis 3 pack of Bronze and Nylon brushes for $11 on Amazon

Is there any possibility that the rust on the barrel threading - is actually some sort of "Kopper Kote" product?

The pictures show a brownish sparkly stuff that does not look like rust - to my old, failing, colour blindish eyes.

Hands down, 000 and 0000 steel wool and oil is a very good cure for outside surfaces of guns. However I won't use it inside the action as small steel fibers have a tendency to fall off during the process. You do not want them getting into your action or trigger group and causing damage. For cleaning areas such as those threads in the photo I prefer a small toothbrush size stainless steel brush dipped in a bit of oil. As a prevention, when the job is complete give the area a good dose of spray action cleaner and lubricator. This should be repeated periodically as required on all guns
