With proper maintenance, how long will a 10/22 last?

Rimfire's so cheap, and with a semi auto and high-cap mags you can shoot up a storm for dirt cheap; it seems that several thousand rounds would go through it in no time at all. So my question is how long do rimfires, especially 10/22s, last before something like a firing pin breaks? They are rather inexpensive rifles so it blows me away how much abuse they seem to be able to take!

Forever. You should have asked how many people have had a serious issue or failure with an unmolested 10/22. Any issues that I have ever seen or heard of generally were caused by a cheap hi-cap magazine or somebody's dream of a modification that turned bad. Stick to the Ruger and stick to the Butler Creek Steel Lips for endless fun with a semi-auto rimfire.

my first rifle was a 1022 i have shot about 50,000 rounds including a few hundred stingers and nothing has broken on it it is still very acurate the mags havestarted to wear a bit and every once in a while i will get a stove pipe but when i use a new mag its nonstop death and destruction . i also maintain my firearms regularly after every shoot i do some cleaning and every few months theay get a detaild cleaning

the built 10/22 i have now is from 1985

before i put a GM barrel on it, and a new hammer it was raped by my dad. He used the gun for hnuting grouse and it was a beater for up north trips etc. When i first got a 25rd mag i was still too young to have a license so i shot it with him at a club. Ive personaly put over 20 bricks of ammo in the past 2 years. I dont want to know how many rounds this guns seen in total, but think about it this way

if you EVER somehow burn a barrel out and screw it up you can get a takeoff for ~30 bucks, or a better aftermarket for a bit more. Replacement parts which seem to last forever are cheap too.

16 years and counting without a hiccup. Can't even guess at the amount of rounds, but lots and lots and lots...I've actually worn out several after market hi cap mags. :D

Thirty plus years, tens of thousands rounds of ammo, not a single problem - ever. Had it out today, as a matter of fact. Definitely a keeper.

The 10/22 I bought and rebuilt had been sitting in the corner of his garage since the late 70's. The stock was mangled, and the barrel pitted with rust, but I just bought a new stock and barrel, had the bolt headspaced, and my 10/22 was as good as new. If you take one apart (a 5-second procedure) you'll see that this little gun is so simple, that there's very little to go wrong with it.
