With the affordable price of bulk .223, is anyone reloading it?

You don't need to reload on a progressive. Sure, its quicker, but when doing large quantities of ammo I do it in stages. It allows me to inspect everycase multiple times. Winter is a great time to mass produce plinking ammo.

This is exactly what I do. I have considered getting something like a Lee Classic Turret press for 9mm, but have taken some serious financial hits this year, so that's out. I can manage on the single stage.

I load 223 on a Dillon 550. fairly fast and cheap. FMJ runs about 10 cents.

The big advantage is that I can tailor the ammo for the gun. 3 different ARs and each takes a different round. For CQB the ammo is made as mild as possible, but still 100% reliable.

Reloading is not just about saving money... It's the ability to tailor a cartridge to your specific gun. Plus, you can make AWESOME PRIMO ammo, with the components of your choice, cheaper than you can buy it...

For me, the cheapest ammo you can buy, like the 1600 round cases of Norinco, are blasting ammo. If you're serious about accuracy, you need to either buy TOP notch ammo or reload.

Cheers
Jay

Roger that Brother Jay, Bulk Norico ammo will fill the plinking and practicing, but not if you want accuracy, for that I reload.

Reloading is just relaxing. Kids, the wife, work, well at least I can take time to do something right, consistent and just plain fun.

If you are like the people at our local range whose most important criteria seems to be how quickly they can empty their semi auto magazine at a huge target at 50 yards, it probably isn't worth your while to reload, because you won't notice the difference that quality ammunition makes. If you actually want to hit smaller targets, at longer distances, with the first shot, you will benefit from a load developed to be accurate in your rifle.

Agreed 100%. To me it's not worth it.

Bolt guns target rifles yes. I can load for a lot less than fed gmm ammo

I'm going to do what's cheapest. Right now I can't reload for much less than buying crate ammo. Good thing is I'll have plenty of brass, and I'm set up to reload. Bad thing is that if ammo increases in price, I'd imagine so would reloading components.

My numbers are showing 26 cents a round versus 46 cents at cheap factory stuff (for my location anyways). And I dont factor in brass as I have 6000 casings from previous factory shooting.

I reload all my .223 because I have bought a ton of components over the years , so I dont think about the cost . I also dont have $400 to drop on a case of ammo every few months

I reload for everything I shoot. It's stress relief for me. I enjoy it and the benefit is a load that is tuned to my firearm and type of shooting I am doing. Not sure how I could load a .223 for 10 cents, what with the cheapest price I can find these days is about 14 cents just for the 55 gr fmj.

Ya that's what I'm reloading at, with used brass. Bought the 1600rnd case of Norinco .223 for $425, works out to 27 cents a round. If you have 6000 pieces of brass your set! Especially if your paying 46 cents for for factory ammo.

$135.60 for 1000 FMJ ? Is that before or after tax.

I bought my last batch from Mystic Precision. It was 158.20 to my door.

I'm loading 62g FMJ for $32/100. I've factored in tax and shipping to my costs as I want to know how much I'm paying to pull the trigger.

P.S: These are hot AR 5.56 chamber loads. DO NOT use them in a 223 bolt.

The good thing with everyone buying the norinco because its just as cheap as reloads means there should be alot more brass laying around for us reloaders !

Yup, $125 + $15 Shipping = $140. +tax =158.20.

Ammo prices mean nothing to me before tax and shipping.

I had a long discussion with a buddie online the other day about 223 ammo prices. And we worked out the following costs that include tax and shipping to our area.
I think in terms of 100 rounds cause that's how many rounds I typically shoot a range session, so I want to know how much that evenings entertainment is milking from my wallet.

1600pack Norinco: $33/100 for 1600
800pack Norinco: $38/100 for 800
500pack MFS steel: $36/100
1000pack AE: $42/100

So, If I could afford to buy a 1600 case of Norinco, that could circumvent my need to reload if it wasn't for the fact that I could not depend on availability, and that my reloads are better being cleaning burning and 62g.

I can get my reloads down to $30/100 using IMR 4198 but only certain guns will cycle reliably with that load, so above I've reference my standard loads that work in all my AR's.

I like reloading. But not 1000 FMJ rounds for my AR.

I value my time more than this. So the extra 35-50 bucks per 1000 well just seems worth it.

Hah, yeah. I'm in the position where I have more time them money, and I shoot a lot, so I try to shave every cent I can off my bottom line.
The cheaper I shoot, the more trigger time I can afford.

Lol well than giver hell lad !!! Lol
Family time, other hobbies, wife time, have all become as important or more than shooting.

I agree about ur trigger time but for me spending other tune allows me more trigger time

But hey we all have different life styles what works for me may not work for u or the next fellow

Cheers

Ah yeah, I hear you.

No family here, and only part time employed. So I'm half broke with time to burn, haha.
