Please help settle a private debate. Which is the more popular round in North America. Not just as a hunting round but as a for whatever reason favorite round

I think for history wise the 8x57 and 7x57 would be on par- but performance wise is 8x57!

Mild, effective and indomitable....what's not to like.

While the others are fine rounds, their popularity here will never equal the 7x57.

I guess it depends which part of the world your from. The 8x57 is common in North America, however; I believe it is more popular in Europe, IMHO.

It does prove that midway sells more 8x57 dies, more 8x57 brass, and more 8x57 ammo.

LOL!!! Nice to show your loyalty for EE, however; in one state alone in the US of wide America, they sell more firearms than all of Canada. Midway USA is one main distributor for reloading; I wonder what Brownell's figures are as well?

There's a reason why 7x57 sells so well... it's arguably the best all-around cartridge in the world. Accurate, efficient, reasonable recoil, history. What's not to like?
I consider 7x57 superior to 308 and 30-06.

Just as an aside, I am also a big fan of the 8mm and 9.3mm cartridges.

Popular literally means which one is being bought by more people. I don't claim to know for sure, but I think Supercub is right, 7x57.

If more dies and components for 8x57mm are being sold than for 7x57mm a possible explanation is the availability of factory ammo.

I'm guessing the RCBS die sales list would be the most accurate indicator as to popularity. I believe that even though the 7X57 is more sought after by cult followers, the 8X57 is probablymore popular in sales. There are literally millions of M98's in 8X57 to feed.

I think for sheer volume the 8x57. The reason, imo, the 7x57s sell so quick on the EE is because there are so few of them out there in the first place.
