Witness-Protection Shotgun w/ 14" barrel

Regarding the Speedfeed "Witness Protection Grip" on a 14" Rem870/Norc870:

Interestingly; looks like Remington used to sell this exact setup as a factory firearm:

Seems we still don't have a definitive answer (from someone who has actually built one up) on whether this configuration would be over-or-under 26" overall...?

Well, the shotgun in the picture would be perfectly legal as imported, but probably restricted. With a standard pistol grip, the longest dimention would need about 17 inches of factory barrel to be 26 inches. The birds head grip sticks back a bit more, but I suspect at least 16 inches would be needed.

I don't believe they currently make the model in the picture. The 14 inch full stocked model is available from the factory, but import is a problem because it's an AOW in the US, and the US State Department don't allow export to mear mortals.

You can ask, but don't be suprised if the answer is a sound NO. I believe some of the problems our dealer/imporers have had getting export permits is end use questions. I doubt PO are going to jeapardize their ability to import by dicking around with the end user listed on the export permit.

Frankly, I don't know how some of the importers are able to get the sub 16 inch AR uppers in. I'm glad that they can. I hope they continue to be able.

These guys down the states have a witness protection model listed here.

It's a 12.5" barrel and listed as 24" overall length with the "witness protection" grip.

With a 14" barrel that would still come up 0.5" short for the overall length. Almost makes it worth looking into a 14.5" barrel, especially those ordering from Dlask.

what does AOW mean?

Any Other Weapon, meaning pen guns, guns designed to look like other things then guns.

SBS = Short barreled shotgun

SBR = Short barreled rifle

All cannot be exported from the USA.

So has anyone come to any conclusions if this is legal? If it is, I would make mine from a Norc copy.Where do you get the pistolgrip from?

I just screwed on my grip and measured my 18 in. barrel to 14 in. then back to the end of the grip and it is 25 3/4 in. , no go. At 14 1/2 in. it would be 1/4 in. over about the perfect length, no diddling with the tape measure and your too short. So what we need is not a 14 in. barrel but a 14 1/2 in. or 15 in. barrel and maybe even the CHOATE GRIPS will work for length.

For the 14" barrels, I have heard people talking about ported choak tubes and the like for the end that screw into the choak threads to allow for a tad more length.
(ie, Remington Ventilator)
