Watched some video's and everything is pretty straight forward. However when I try to remove the gas piston after unscrewing the set screw the gas key and rod wont come out. Any tips appreciated thanks

i had the same issue recently. i ended up removing the gas block to get the rod out...

Ok ill have to figure out how to do that. at the same time the screw heads are stripped on my handguard. I received it like this unfortunately. Nothing is giving me issues its just that id like to give it a nice clean and get familiar with it

that’s a bummer bout the screws! but once you do get the handguard off there two screws under the gas block, remove those and it’ll come off.

the handguard screws had the #### torqued out of them from the factory. you can try to peen the metal back in with a hammer then wedge either a torx or a flat head or Robertson. needs to be tight enough you need to hammer the bit in, then torque them out. the hammering should jar them a little and make them easier to unscrew.

I assume you took off the hex screw that stops the piston from flying forward (where the allen key is inserted into in this video at 2:51 https://youtu.be/rt7xy27U0Vg?t=171)

The reason they don't come out is the crud is blocking the rest from sliding out the front. Take your bcg out and give the piston some *light* encouragement from the back end they should come out.

Might not be a bad idea to take the gas block off, but make sure you put them back on properly and loktite all set screw.
