I think I need to tap and clean out the threads on my WK-180c lower's pistol grip attachment point, I can't get any of the bolts to thread in enough to secure a pistol grip. Since it's compatible with AR-15 grips I'm assuming it uses the same 1/4"-28tpi NF tap size? I'm just hoping to have somebody second or confirm this before I go out and buy the wrong size of tap or spend money on a kit that does not have the right size. If anybody can confirm this or let me know if it's a different size I'd appreciate it.

P.S: I've never tapped anything before so let me know if I got this wrong; my understanding is I want to lubricate the tap and run it into the hole slowly, making sure to back it out every once in a while to clean the threads, let me know if any of you have done something like this before and if you have any advice. I don't want to ruin the lower on my rifle.

Thanks in advance,

Why not compare the original bolt threads to a thread gauge? Much better idea than cutting thread material out of your rifles receiver.

i put magpul moe grip on my wk180c. the bolt does seem like it bottoms out before the head contacts the grip, but i didn't want to go messing around with the factory thread so i just put an extra nut between the head and the grip to take up the extra length of the bolt. haven't ran into problems with this setup.

I thought that might be the issue, I'm going to try this solution first and if I run into problems then I will try cleaning the threads with a tap. When I got the rifle I took off the A2 pistol grip it came with and installed a skeletonized aluminum grip, it looks great but I forgot to account for how cold weather would affect the grip, it is too cold to grip in winter conditions and so I'm moving to a Magpul MIAD I had lying around. I can't seem to get the Magpul OR A2 grip it came with to lock down sufficiently using both the OEM and Magpul provided bolts. I think I may have accidentally cross-threaded the bolt on when installing the skeletonized grip, If I end up having to run a tap I will let everybody know how it works out.
