I'm in either way, but I voted for the AR mag well. Lower production time and cost sound like two good reasons to me.

Are the lowers calibre marked? That might cause confusion with a conversion.

I do like the idea of swappable uppers, but I think most people would only end up using one and get stuck with the other.

An AK mag lower is distinctively different than a STANAG lower and rest of the common AR short casing calibre were all designed around the dimensions of a STANAG magazine, so nothing is different with the lower that would cause a problem.

I totally see the desire to have an AK mag in a gun that even slightly resembles an AK... or is even from the same era as the AK. Its a style thing. But the reality is that the STANAG mag is a better option for a gun that looks modern and from a functionality standpoint with the side mag release and straight insertion.

I voted for a X39 rifle but in reality, in doing so, we all voted for an upper as the lower already exists.

Down the road, I can totally see the value in developing another lower for AK mags. But up front, for now... go with the simplest, fastest and most cost effective route (which is what this project has been abotu since day 1).

A vote AK.

I don't find the AR style x39 10/10 mags to work great, and neither do my other shooting friends who use these also.
Even with the modifications, they are not 100%. They are ok for 7rds, after that they get so-so. For those with good experiences with them I feel you are lucky. Having 10/10 mags that are not 100% function at 10/10 defeats the purpose.

AK mags can be had in 5rd on 10/20/30rd package size. Magpul Gen3 AK mags are supposed to be quite good for those wanting the smaller 5/10rd and 5/20rd overall size.
AK mags work 100%. No risk.

AK mags come in real steel, or polymer Magpul. Something for everyone.
