WK180-C range review. Update Post #2

If I try to order one how long will I have to wait to get one eventually? I am under the impression there is a long waiting list to fill now for those already preordered?

Check the Wolverine Forum post(s) but they have 2800 pre-orders to fill, hoping for 100 guns a week. At the moment Kodiak are making 25.....

The math says 28 weeks - best case Jan 2019

I think I know where we could save about half a pound on this rifle.

You don't have to buy a trigger, there are tons of easy ways to improve a stock trigger. Not to insult anyone, but I chuckle every time someone spends 300+ bucks on a trigger for a plinker rifle or battle rifle. If you are intending to do precision shooting, competition shooting, or just have the cash to blow by all means go ahead, but I have never felt the need after breaking in or polishing a stock trigger. Usually I just re-set and pull the trigger (lower separated from upper and guide the hammer down with my hand) for a couple of hours while watching a movie, clean the components afterwards, and bam a smooth nice breaking trigger.

I tried the paracord trigger mod on my BCL-102. Can't believe the difference it made in how it smoothed out. One day, I'll pony up for a trigger that's got a bit lighter pull, but this will do for now.

Interesting - I had thought the 'new' hand-guard that they ultimately went to was not interchangeable.... at least you would not be able to get to the gas block without removing the guard.

You could run a DD MFR barrel nut or a standard barrel nut, the gas block and allen bolt on the end is really big, it won't fit inside of a rail. Also since the upper is so wide, you would have to run a handguard without anti-rotation tabs.

I thought it took a standard ar 15 barrel nut, is the gas tube system so big it won't allow other handguards?

It has the standard thread. The gas block is really big. Also since they decided to run the spring all the way to the upper it limits the number of handguards you can use. The spring is a larger diameter.

Most AR-15 piston guns use a gas tube diameter rod, the spring is near the gas port or there is a spacer.

Could you measure the interior diameter of the handguard? I'm sure there are some aftermarket handguards that are big enough to go over the gas block. I'm also very curious as to how much the stock handguard and barrel nut weigh to see if there's even any real weight savings you can get. Although, judging by the barrel nut, that thing is massive and weighs at least twice as much as what it can be with an aftermarket handguard.

Trigger removal

Tools needed;
Small flat screwdriver
4.5mm or 5/64" allen key
roll pin punch
Vise block is optional but very handy

1. Place rifle in vice block and open the rifle up by pushing on the guide rod assembly. With a flat tip screwdriver remove the circlip from the pivot pin. Set the upper aside

2. Remove circlip from bolt catch pin. Then remove bolt catch pin, bolt catch and spring.

3. Using a 4.5mm or 5/64" allen key, remove the safety selector screw from the right side. Then slide the safety selector out.

4. Use a punch to remove pins from trigger. Don't lose the pins, you will have to re-use them since they are longer. I'm not going to explain how to swap out a trigger, there are a million videos on it.

Now reverse the steps, #### the hammer before you insert the safety selector. When you install the bolt catch, make sure you capture the bolt catch spring with it.

Do a function test before firing.

Wow, that trigger replacement looks annoyingly long to accomplish. At least we can! :D Thanks for posting the handguard specs too, I knew it was somewhere but I couldn't find it.
