WK180 Design Improvement Mod

YoungestPiperCub, I put well over several thousand rounds since the Ar-180b came out that I bought back then but I havent detected an issue with the bolt slamming against the plate but will check. One thing with what you doing installing the cushions I just got an idea if I was to do the same to my guide rod plate in that I would end mill pockets so the rubbers would have a seat and install them or stick them down with some high quality glue or engine rtv to help hold them in place. ---- Dieseldog!

The blackjack buffer fits the spring assy well but it’s thickness negates the bolt holdback function. It seems to be made of 2 separate layers of poly. I trimmed the thickness down by about 2.5 mm and it locks back on an empty mag. I will update once I get some rounds downrange.

Update: I put several mags down range and there were zero issues with bolt hold back. I’m content with the functionality of this buffer. An OEM made one in the appropriate thickness would be a no-brainer addition to this series of rifles.

may i ask how you went about trimming the buffer down?

I trimmed the buffer using a razor blade. There seems to be a natural “divide” in the polyurethane. It took about an hour or so to trim it down the right amount

This is what we used from TNA, they are for the 9mm models. The cost was around$15 each I think. I cut approximately 1/8” off the block, and used JB weld to attach it. Works great so far, but there are only about 140 rounds through the WK180 with this setup. Bolt locks open on last round, and is no problem doing it manually either. So far pretty happy with everything.

I would love to see the op rod holes in the buffer closed off. This would allow forgoing the jbweld. It looks like you could get a few functional buffers out of that $15 block. It’s around $20 for essentially one functional buffer on the blackjack version but it fits without any adhesives

Yes that would be ideal, but I don’t think it will be tough to scrape the JB off when it’s time. In my case it was handy, as I was already putting in an order with TNA, I figured I’d give it a go. Hard to tell in the pic, but its only carbon on the rubber, no real noticeable wear, so hopefully I won’t have to worry about it for a while!
