WK180 Gen 2 builds

So, aside from the Kodiak enhanced Lower Receiver and the Charging Handle that still doesn't cover the cocking slot, are there any internal improvements to the operating system? Did they go with a 2-part piston to alleviate breakage? What about the Gas Block position - still "Carbine"? Or did they improve it by relocating the Block to Mid or Rifle-length? Improved ergonomics are all well and good, but if the basic reliabiity has not been enhanced and the frequent parts breakage addressed, then V.2. is a bust IMHO. All "show" and no "go", so to speak...

Looking at the manual for both Gens the piston rod and spring are the same. The nylon piston rod bushing is the same.

The gas block on the Gen 2 now is regulated and has a retaining ring and extra set screw to keep it from moving.

By regulated do you mean adjustable? Hopefully, because dialing down to only what you need for your ammo can help with longevity.

Regardless, it's good to hear the gas block is well secured; a single piece piston doesn't have the flex to be rotated out if alignment if the gas block's position slips which why the 1st gen liked to snap pistons.

Page 8 shows a 'Gas Regulator' ahead of the gas block. Sounds like adjustable to me, but all I am going by is the parts list.

Since there is no procedure in the manual to adjust anything, perhaps it is not adjustable. If not, then it's another over gassed rifle just like the Gen 1. More broken guide rods, etc.

Here's how it's going so far, still need to put in a better trigger. Not the best picture but I'll be taking it to the range tomorrow so I may get a better one.

Looking good
Do they have handguard options? That o e certainly looks a few inches longer than the OPs. I really like the look of that ^^^
What muzzle device is that?

I took mine out today and put ~100 rounds through it.

Far from an in depth reliability test but absolutely no issues so far. Feeding from aluminum and steel GI mags as well as M2 Pmags.

Had it out at the range today to sight in the red dot, maybe 50 rounds through it with no issues. The upper is going to get marked up with brass pretty quick, which isn't a big issue for me. That was a lot worse when I had my Famae.

Do they still have the piss poor ejection pattern of the original? It’s a terrible shame that they chose not to add any sort of brass deflection, nor make it viable for one to be properly added.

So far, the Gen 2 "improvements" appear to be limited to the Lower Receiver ergonomics and the Charging Hande (which doesn't cover the cocking slot). It is a huge missed opportunity that Kodiak did not improve the function and reliability of the firearm at the same time. They could have relocated the Gas Port and switched to a 2 or 3-piece Piston system to eimiinate parts breakage and to facilitate disassembly for routine maintenance of the Gas System. Intead they chose "lipstick" - more's the pity....

Highly recommend taking the handguard off and loctiting/ properly torqueing the gas block set screws. Not sure if mine came loose or if they came loose within the first 100 rounds, regardless they were BARELY hand tight when I took the handguard off to check out the gas system. The Gen 2 does however have retaining clip as well as set screws, so when properly torqued I imagine this system will be far superior to the gen 1 in terms of gas block walking/piston breakage.

The fact the gas block screws were not properly tightened from the factory, which can cause a known issue, does not increase the confidence in Kodiak's QC...

Yeah not a good look. I think everyone should break down and double check a rifle when they get it regardless. But it is not confidence inspiring as a whole.

Looks really good. Im Sure TNA will continue to develop and offer improvements for its mechanical short comings. Despite the Ben 2 coming to market i think one of these guns may be my next .223 purchase.

I love mine so far. Got my 3-12 mounted on it now so probably zero it tomorrow put another 100 or so through it and shoot some Hornady 75gr Match for groups to see how it does.
