Building a short barreled 180 for a range toy, I have a short barrel with a mid length gas system already from a previous AR and I cant seem to find a mid length piston rod. Do they exist? I see RWA has them on their site, but out of stock. Do they still make them or was that a one time thing.

TNA makes carbine and rifle length rod but no mid length :(

Anyone know where to get one or if someone has one they're not using Ill totally buy it off ya.

Thanks in advance

A non-site sponsor carries some, will PM link. You may have to drill out gas port a bit, but I would try it first, as many WKs are overgassed and pound themselves apart a bit. If the gun cycles with the current port size and with the mid length piston, it should in theory be gentler on the operating system. If you do not to drill it out to get it to function, but overdue it, True North Arms has an adjustable gas block that will let you dial things back.

Added info on non site sponsor mid length op rod to Reddit r/firearmdealscanada and created feedback thread on r/CanadaGuns.

You can mention non sponsors, you just can't link to them - I got one from Third Echelon Design in Edmonton. Responsive to communication and quick to ship. That upper is still waiting on completion.

Thanks, Third Echelon is the place I meant to reference, as I know of no where else that carries the mid length op rod. Would the default WK handguard leave the gas block exposed if you had a mid-length gas port on the barrel? It might look a bit like the M10X in that case. It would cool to see it used in a rehoming-build of a safe-queen rifle with some high end parts placed on a MCR Kit (with Spectre LTD Spec 180 or SI Lynx lower), or True North Arms upgraded receiver kit, or a complete Lynx build when that upper is ready.

It does 'just' have the front of the gas block exposed. Maybe 1/4" or so. Edit - if the handguard was straight at the front not sloped, the gas block would be covered.

I have a mid length piston for my WS-MCR from Third Echelon. Works fine. Recoil impulse is slightly less.

Thanks for the info! Did you have to drill out the gas port any, or did you leave it standard AR-15 diameter? Does have any trouble eating hard core ammo with a longer piston and smaller gas port if you left it unchanged?

I moved and I can't find my barrel dimpling jig and drill bit to mount the gas/piston block properly, so this is languishing somewhere on the floor to the right of my office desk. I'll try it at standard dia - word is that the WK are pretty overgassed to deal with a wide range of ammo. I have an ammo can of various rounds - I'll try the stuff I usually shoot and go from there.

Thanks! Good luck, and let us know how it goes! I would leave the port alone unless the firearm has trouble cycling a preferred or plentiful ammo type; the WK is gassed like a com bloc rifle without the durability, so giving it less gas should hopefully reduce and possibly eliminate some of the rifle pounding itself to pieces :p
