Wk180 why so unpopular

Id put a dollar to a dime that 90% of the guys on this fourm who say they shoot 1.5 MOA with non-match ammo, couldn't actually put 10 consecutive rounds in a 3 MOA ring.

For context, a solid 1-1.5 MOA would mean you could hit a USPSA target at 1,000 yards, all things being equal.
 
There is nothing unusual about printing one super tight group. I really doubt that is the accuracy he typically gets. 100, 200m etc. groups are not awfully relevant information towards 1000m accuracy anyway. I have printed some ridiculously small groups with otherwise inaccurate guns. Sometimes things just line up that way.

Exactly. I’ll probably never be able to replicate this group but it made me happy at the time. With good ammo it’s usually about 1-1/4” at a 100. Feed it the cheap stuff and it quickly turns into 3-4 moa.
 
I had a gen 1 that gave me issues it got sent back to Kodiak once, the barrel on it was horrible I think Fred Flintstone used one of Mr Slates wore out rock bits to make the rifling in it lol
It went through a couple gas pistons too, The fix for the magnetic charging handle in case anyone cares is to put some grease in the hole before putting the charging handle in and the grease acts like a suction and keeps the handle in place so it won't gouge the reciever
I bought a gen 2 wk181 in the 7.62z39 and the first time out at the range after about 30 rounds of barnaul all 8 handguard screws were backed off and laying on the table lol
The rifle worked good otherwise and had decent accuracy some locktight should fix the screws from backing out
 
Not saying folks aren't experiencing issues but my Gen 1 has been reliable, fun to shoot with minute of woodchuck accuracy at a 100 yards. I did upgrade the trigger with triggertech unit. My Gen 2 had the gas piston/bock and foregrip screws loosen but nothing broken and I still really enjoy it. The trigger is generally bargain basement and would also benefit from a triggertech .
 
I had a SU-16 that never gave me any trouble in 5 years of blasting, but the gun felt sooo cheap and I always expected the plastic turd to explode, so I sold it and bought a WK 180.
LOL....I trusted it and it felt way more Robust,..but issue after issue and premature wearing was un real. should of kept the keltec...witch still isnt sayng much.
 
I am wondering if you buy one and upgrade it with the small bits and pieces from TNA, will they work?

Just looking at the Kel-Tec stuff hurts. I had a SU-16 years ago, never shot it, put it on it's wings, OMG, is this a bird?

Had 2 SUB2000, never shot any and last week got a bunch of rifles in a package deal and made some good money on the SUB2000. Most people on GP don't know that those are around $700 now, NEW!
 
I think they are ok guns... with a few to many parts that wear quickly. And if you miss that wear.. it goes from minor thing like a loose bolt or a compressed spring, too bust pistons, guides bolts in no time. 1200 rounds and the main springs are compressed 1/8 an inch and gets ftf off a full mag... springs are only $15 for a set... but having to replace them twice a year with moderate use is kinda BS.
 
I have one and it runs fine with regular maintenance.
Loctite is must. One of the quirks of this rifle.
It is in no way the equal to my AR but it’s one of the rifles that we can use (at least today).
I have seen all the available rifles that we can use in Kanada have failures.
Some of them were rifles that cost in excess of 3000 dollars.
The last multi gun shoot we had a couple of shooters with way more pricey iron than mine were having some interesting failures.
It’s not an AR, it’s not a military grade rifle, it goes bang everytime and for range use or multigun in my experience it has been acceptable.

Gen 1 WK180 was anything BUT slim... That was my main beef with the one I had for a week. The receiver set was very thick and ugly shape; it was easily 1.5x the width of an AR15 or Modern Sporter lower receiver, with the added "benefit" of numerous sharp corners. And a pretty loose receiver fit. And practically impossible to replace the barrel with anything since it was a rifle length barrel with carbine length gas system. I was one of the first buyers and was able to sell my WK180 without losing money on the deal, intending to replace it with a Modern Sporter. But then the Turd did his thing and my only semi-auto 5.56 is still a safe-queen AR15. Boooo. In hindsight, I should have kept the WK180 because mine definitely worked. At least for the couple hundred rounds of 5.56 that I put through it. Can't speak to longevity, of course.
 
want a "rifle " that doesnt cost much and goes bang every time....LOL the HIGH Point 9mm carbine. I was just thinking about this.......I bought my HP carbine at the same time as my WK and I have hammered the HP and never cleaned it. There is NO premature wear any place on it. Its ugly, its heavy.....but built like a Tank. HOW can such a LOW priced gun be sooo much better ??? You could buy 3 of these for the price of the WK.
1500 rounds and NO breakage, I trust it NOT to break.

I have an early Gen 1 and have shot a lot of targets, coyotes and multigun matches with it. I sent mine back to get the chamber touched up to 5.56 (they were originally .223 wylde and they were having problems with consistency with the reamers) and I have broken one piston because I got complacent with checking the gas block. Those are the only problems I have had with this rifle. After several thousand rounds, I'm super happy with it. It's not my AR, but it's legal and I have fun with it. Mine is an honest 2 MOA gun.

I feel like a disservice is happening here as no one has mentioned Kodiak's warranty work. They were absolutely great to deal with and had my rifle back to me in a week.
 
Levon, is your gas block pinned?

When my piston broke Kodiak sent me a new rod and set screw. I couldn’t see that the block had moved though and has been fine since. First 175 of Wolverines production in .223 wylde with pinned gas block.

Their warranty is hit and miss. When the gas piston broke they were great and sent out a new one in a week, when i was having barrel issues and pierce primer issues I sent them the whole rifle and they lost my rifle
It was over six months before they found it, fixed it and sent it back after numerous phone calls by me because they kept giving me the runaround. when they found it they told me it ended up in their prototype/pre production vault because it was a low serial number rifle and they only found it because of my personal identification I had on it (a punisher sticker)
They never fixed the barrel but the rifle has been working fine otherwise.
I've never heard of a company "forgetting where they put" someone elses property before so my issue was most likely an isolated one
I like how the rifle shoulders and shoots and its nice and light and handy so that's why i got the 7.62x39 version and the limited turd goes to jail version
If they ever get all the bugs worked out they will be decent rifles

My rifles serial # was 6XX, and it came with a pinned gas block. It wasn't an early enough serial # to be part of the bolt carrier recall. Must have been a production change early on, I know it wasn't too long after that none came pinned.
 
Mr. Guns and Gear mentions in his review of the Adam Arms P2 piston AR that it has a pinned adjustable gas block that also allows easy removal of the piston for servicing. He and others have had no issue with the firearm. It's a pity that someone like True North Arms doesn't make a similar piston to retrofit WKs out there for those who want a more reliable firearm.
