Wk180 will not cycle

Hey everyone.

I’ve put probably 1000 rounds through my wk180 throughout its life so far, and have had no issues with it....until now. Took it out this weekend, got about 5 rounds through it then the bolt stopped cycling. I can manually cycle the bolt with no issues, eject the empty brass and it grabs the next round and chambers it properly. Pull trigger, it fires, but bolt doesn’t even move at all. So my thought is it’s an issue with the gas tube. But this is where I need help/advice. This is my first firearm that is gas operated, so I have very minimal knowledge on how they work and maintain them. So, what should I be checking on it for potential cause?

And I will add, I do thoroughly clean my firearms after each use, and treat them well to make sure they last a long time. So being dirty is not the issue, unless I have missed something in particular I need to do with the gas system.

Thanks for any help

The WK doesn’t have a gas tube, it has a piston. Maybe the piston is broken or damaged, preventing it from moving, or from properly engaging the bolt carrier.

Looks like I found the problem. Now that I’m home and have tools, starting to strip it, noticed the gas block had loosened and moved forward. So now just gotta get the fore grip off. That now has a couple stripped screws. But that’s a new problem I can handle. Thanks guys

You are lucky that your gas piston is not broken. Common problem with wk180c.

Your gas block should be secured by either 2 set screws (newer version) or 1 set screw and a cross pin (older).

I apply red loctite to my set screws and still check it every 500 rounds (yes it has loosen even with red loctite). If this continues I'm considering staking my set screws.

Good to know. Mine has 1 set screw that back out till it hit the handguard. Has a spot for a second screw that may be long gone, or never there. Love the gun though. Still worth what I paid for it.

I strongly recommend staking it, and get the second screw replaced too.
It's pretty easy, you just need a dimpling jig and a drill bit. I got mine from TNA.

Take along screwdriver and tap the gas block backwards until it can move no further rearward. It should not require a great deal of force. The barrel is profiled in such a manner that it should be obvious where the gas black should stop moving rearward. You can then apply red or blue loctite to the screws that go into the gas block. I personally can only reach the rearmost screw with the rail on, as such that was the one I tightened the most.

If you have lost the screw when it fell out then get in touch with Owen at Kodiak Defence, he'll cover it under warranty and send some spares.

With the rail you are not the only person to do that. The screws are a #####, I think I will replace my rail at some point or just never take it off (I'm 50/50 on that).
