WK180C Gas block and piston alignment issue

I have a WK180C.
It seemed to be cycling ok for 100rnds.

I completely dissasembled the rifle to inspect and clean.

The gas block and piston was quite dirty, so it was all removed and cleaned.
When going back together, I noticed that when the block it tightened, the piston binds and will not slide at all. Closer inspection shows when the block set screws are tight, the piston block bore points the piston down toward the barrel nut out of alingment.

The nylon bushing also shows wear towards the barrel side of the bushing.

Has anyone experienced a bent gas block or piston?

Slightly tweaked/twisted
upper?

I have rolled the piston on a flat suface, and it shows true.

I have since replaced the nylon with the TNA brass. Same issue on the alignment.

I have ordered both piston and block from TNA.

Rifle shot straight and true before dissasembled with no apparent cycle issues.

Thanks for any advice.

You can unscrew the 2 gas block screws and attempt to realign the gas block. I'm not sure if the newer production WKs have the set screw dimples drilled at the underside of the barrel. If there are then they probably drilled it off center from the factory. To fix that yourself you can get a barrel dimpling jig from TNA (site sponsor) and redrill the dimples deeper. You need a 0.750" diameter jig. While you are at it consider pinning the gas block to ensure it never walks out or get out of alignment.

If it's a new gun the easiest way is to contact Kodiak Defence, they will sort it out for you.

presume enough play between gas block and barrel that if you tighten the rear set screw more that the forward that the gas block with set up on an angle. try backing off the rear set screw and tightening the forward set screw more.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I have new gas block, piston and screws coming from TNA.
They were also really helpful on the phone.
Going to try with the new parts and see where it lands.

The barrel is dimpled as I recieved it.

As far as pinning the block, do you pin to the barrel flange where the block butts up to, or into the barrel itself with a short dowel pin?

Update on this.

Replaced gas block, piston and screws today.

Immediately upon installing the block, the fit around that section of the barrel is SO much tighter. Damn near a light press fit. The old block was very loose fitting.

My opinion is that the set screws backed out, wore the inside of the block (but not the barrel thankfully) or, egged the bore of the block a few thou causing the tilt when tightened.

All is now 100% and smooth operating.

I suppose the moral is check your screws and pin the block :)

Thanks everyone!

Not exactly, but yes there was enough play in the gas block bore to affect the alignment enough that I could not get it aligned no matter how I tightened the screws.
New one went on and tightened up without any issue first time.
