Why would I buy a BD44 Stg44 clone when I have this: (Yes, now I AM gloating!!):

What you guys fail to understand is that I have been actively collecting, buying and selling firearms for over 35 years. I have a pretty decent reference collection of 12(3), (4), (5) and (6) prohibs covering off all of the major military pistol, SMG and rifle designs of the late 20th Century and early 21st Century. I know a thing or two about military small arms (and pseudo-military clones) and have a pretty good soldier's eye for what will and won't work and what will and won't hold together. In additioin to the collecting I was a professional infantry soldier for 34 years. I encountered a lot of different firearms in my military travels. I couldn't tell you the first thing about a lever gun, but if it self-loads, chances are that I've onwed it, own it, have fired it, or at least handled it in the company of a "Reasonably Knowledgeable Individual" (RKI). Some people are handy with small engine repair. Me, I know guns. Lots of guns.

SWEET ! Love it! A lot of years ago I was able to put a mag through a 12-2 sample. They are a very cool gun.

Interestingly your 12-3 MP44 is worth a whole lot less than the BD44. The difference being the potential pool of prospective buyers.

I also have 12-3 and the two I'd really love to have would be an MP38/40 and an MP44/StG44. Those would go nicely with my current 12-3's. :)
 
I think that Kodiak may have a winner on their hands with the 7.62 x 39mm "Mutant" clone, despite the fact that cheap Eastern European ammo has dried up and ammo costs have risen. Lots of folks have still been clamouing for exactly this type of rifle, and Kodiak are first out of the gate with this calibre using the readily available (and far superior to AR mag) AK mag. Notwithstandng Kodiak's litany of failures with their AR180 clone, I have little doubt that these will sell like hotcakes. It was only a matter of time....

Oh, I know exactly what my 12(3) MP-44 is worth on the resale market - give or take $4K is the going rate. Interesting (to me) is the fact that the market for 12(3), (4) and (5) firearms has seen a bit of a resurgence in the past few years. Switzers and Landsborough auctions have been extremely busy with such sales and those prohibs have been routinely moving fast and fetching prices well over $1K. The market is not yet entirely dead, as relatively "young" collectors like myself (57) jockey to fill gaps within our lifetime collections. For instance I am still in the market for several SMGs - S&W M76, Beretta PM-12, etc. I have owned a 12(3) MP-40 SMG and regrettably sold it when I liquidated my WW 1 and 2 Milsurp collections to fund a family trip to Disney World back in the mid 2000s (still worth every penny!). I sold off the MP40, MP41, TSMG M1A1, Reising M50, PPSh-41 and a couple of others that I can't recall. In SMGs & PCCs I still hold an FN Uzi, HK MP5, HK UMP-45, CAL C1 SMG, Sterling Mk9 "faux" Suppressed, FAMAE SAF 40, Cobray MAC 9/11, B+T APC 9, SIG MPX, FX9, Angstadt UDP-9, Colt (RRA) 9mm SMG, CZ Scorpion EVO 3, Zavasta Skorpion, Kriss Vector Gen 2 .45 ACP, and FN PS90 SBR. I am still missing a few, but it's not a terrible representation of late 20th Century/early 21st Century SMG/PDW designs. My Canadian and Post-WW2 rifle collections are bigger and better, as is the Sidearm collection of handguns and edged weapons. My most recent acquisition was a 12(5) British L1A1 with Synthetic furniture for under $500 all-in, inclding taxes and the buyer's premium. It will pair nicely with the TRILUX SUIT Sight that I have sitting within my collection...

You might want to consider that this govt is hot to ban anything it can and the non-res rifles not caught up in the current ban are a sore spot with the anti-gun forces in this country. There is no guarantee there will be any semi-auto rifles available to buy by the time you get your AR15 buy back cheque. IF you desire to have a rifle for fun and defence in the future, it would be prudent to buy one now, while you still can. Just saying' ...............

Prior to two years ago I did not own a single non-res semi-auto rifle. After the AR's got whacked w the ban hammer, I went out and bought an undisclosed number of non-res semi-auto rifles because I'm not gonna be disarmed by an authoritarian leftist govt.

Starting to realize this, based on today's proposed amendment to C-21 banning nearly everything under the sun. May have to make a purchase out of spite at this point.

Last week I kinda accidentally ordered an X95. Didn't really need it or want it but now I'm pretty happy that order is in.

Every time I get close to paying off my credit card, Blackface announces ANOTHER ban. The number of guns I have purchased in the last year is crazy. :(
 
I just bought one today, I'm sure I could afford a better semi, but after spending thousands on pistols this summer I couldn't stomach it.

And I'm dejected. If PP gets in and we overturn all this crap I'll buy a B&T.

Wow,,,This thread got angry about mid way. Whatever the hell you decide on, buy it right away!!! I was in your predicament last night,and 20 min of research led me to buy a crusader sentinel instead of a WK. Its less than $200 more. Haven't shot it yet but the thing is beefy!!!! Anyways good luck and act soon.
 
Here's something a bit odd.

I went through my wife's WK and discovered, as had been reported by others, that most of the screws were really loose and some just about ready to fall out. I also discovered the barrel had been DIMPLED under the gas block setscrews. By "dimpled" I mean someone plunged an end mill into the barrel to create flat bottomed pockets for the setscrews. This was done after the barrel had been finished because the dimples are in the white. For me, that's fine, it saves me doing to the job and no way in hell is that gas block gonna move.

This is where the story gets a little weird.

Grabbed my buddy's rifle to do the same checks on it. We purchased the rifles at the same time from the same distributor. His rifle had most of the screws VERY tight, with only a couple somewhat loose. His gas block was tight and featured the Gen 2 front circlip to prevent the gas block moving forward.

Two rifles purchased at same time from the same source have two wildly different conditions and different gas block retention mods. Weird.

Big picture: I don't really care as long as the rifles work and don't fall apart or break parts in the process. These are relatively minor issues that once corrected and understood won't cause any problems.
 
WK181C has a different gas system with a sealed end and a partially removable sleeve for the piston which may help prevent piston breakage. Not sure if this will also be used on 180 Gen 2 or if the new gas block (and piston?) will be available as an upgrade for the Gen 1 and/or 2.
